Boy Buys Smoke Detectors Instead of Beloved PS4
Video at link~
By Good News Network Wednesday, April 23, 2014

An 8-year-old Texas boy had been saving for months to buy the expensive PlayStation 4, but after seeing the TV news report of a devastating fire, he changed his mind.

A mother and her 6-year-old child were killed by a fire near his home, and the story had a real impact on Hector Montoya. So he took the $300 he had saved and spent the money on smoke detectors.

"Saving a life is more important," Montoya said.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department showed Hector and his friends how to actually install the small devices in people's ceilings and the group went door to door installing more than 100.

Sensationalized news stories.

I'd feel like crap if I were the boy's parents, not providing essential safety to children plus having the child pay for smoke detectors. Crappy parents that boy has.

the boy made a decision to help other people after seeing a story about a horrific fire. He had saved money for something to benefit himself but decided to act selflessly and attempt to help others.

His parents should be proud, and you...I don't know about you.

The smoke detectors were for OTHERS in the neighborhood.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department showed Hector and his friends how to actually install the small devices in people's ceilings and the group went door to door installing more than 100.

And BTW... there are many families in this current economy that are not able to adequately provide for their children. And I'm sure it depresses the crap out of them.

You have a solution for people not as fortunate as yourself ???

He went out and bought for other families and went with fired dept to install. The boys parents are teaching him right in my eyes. Acting selflessly when he had every right to do with his money that he saved up on a treat for himself.

And what is your problem with people showing some humanity. We need more love and kindness in this world!

This has nothing to do with the child's parents. It has nothing to do with them not providing for him.

Of course, in order to "feel good" you gotta "read good" to grasp those points.

Not clear if that was simply a proud admission that the writer didn't read the article, or this entire bit of contrarianism is a bit of snarky eff-y'all performance art, poorly executed.

here in Texas - at 8 years old he already has stronger priorities than folks like Goodhair and his lapdog Greg Abbott. He is actually thinking about the welfare of people other than himself in Texas. Way to go Hector!
