Senator McCain -
If "Obamacare" is defeated due to the highly partisan Supreme Court, and since you are hoping it does, I expect you to explain it to my 22 year old daughter, who is graduating the University of Arizona in May with honors, why YOU are wanting to take away her healthcare.
Even though she has a job lined up after graduation which will provide her with healthcare benefits, she inherited her paternal grandmother's thyroid and has a pre-existing condition. Therefore she will be uninsurable. Under Obamacare, this would not have been a problem.
As her mother, I do not have the heart to explain to her after all her hard work to get to the place where she is in life why she will be treated as a second class citizen who does not deserve healthcare.
I will let you, her Senator who is supposed to be representing her, explain it to her.
Sincerely,
Jillxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

(397 posts)But if he does you can expect it to be something apologetic and couched in polite terms. And it'll insult anyone who can see through it. And I hope you post it all over the net so others can see it.

(3,596 posts)Coverage of pre-existing conditions varies widely based on the employer. Without the ACA, many premium-based policies excluded pre-existing conditions outright whereas some limited only certain categories of pre-existing conditions.
But policies of many "self-insured" employers such as mine do not impose a pre-existing condition exemption to coverage.
Not sure of the specifics of her situation but hopefully her employer does not have a pre-existing condition exclusion that would apply to her condition.
But your point is well taken, even if she gets coverage with this employer, who is to say that her next employer may exclude pre-existing conditions.
The only reason the exclusion of pre-existing conditions or the dramatically increased premiums for persons with such conditions flies is because of the profit motive. If our health care system was designed with the PURPOSE of preventing and treating illness, this wouldn't be an issue. As long as there is money to be made on people's misfortunes, this will remain a problem.

(39,451 posts)Fingers are crossed for her.
She had to have surgery and has to follow up with a doctor every 6 months - it would be horrid if she was denied.
