Celebrating the life of Terry Coppage
Terry was born September 12, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joe and Anne Coppage and was the youngest of three children. He began his schooling at Holy Family in St. Louis and graduated from St. Mary's in Little Rock, Arkansas before attending the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Terry married the love of his life Debby in Tulsa on November 20, 1976. Terry was quite the entrepreneur over the years. He worked in the small loan, vending/gaming and restaurant industries. Terry also owned several businesses, including Rock Island and The Train Station, before focusing his time on his current career, Bartcop.com, as a political humorist. Terry was a drummer as a young man and always enjoyed music. He and Debby often traveled to attend the concerts of some of their favorite groups. Travel, mostly to Western states, was one of Terry's favorite things to do with Debby by his side. Northern California weather was an enjoyable destination spot as well as the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. He also enjoyed writing, discussing politics and hanging out at home with Debby and their cats, Rusty and Dax. Terry's motto was "have a good time every day" and he did that most of the time. He was a kind, caring and protective husband who frequently told his wife how much he loved his life, living with her and their kitties and writing the Bartcop.com web page. He was a confident, tenacious man who maybe had a little impatience in him but used those qualities to voice his views on truth and equality and provide a platform for like-minded people.
Terry is survived by his loving wife Debby, his brother Mike and wife Gayle of St. Louis, Missouri, his sister Patty and husband Wally Sieges of St. Louis; his brothers-in-law, Jeff Stephens and wife Angie of Tulsa, and Todd Stephens and wife Breanna of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and many friends. Memorial service will be Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 12:30 pm, in the Floral Haven Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terrys memory at F&M Bank, acct: #9281096; 1330 South Harvard Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74112.

(102,244 posts)I found Bartcop just prior to the launching of DU... I read his site and MWO (mediawhoresonline.com) "religiously" and then DU once launched. While I stayed with DU-- MWO mysteriously closed down--I am afraid I drifted away from Bartcop.
I remember his frustration at "too-timid" Demicrats and his love for the best tequila. He was also a home for much of the better leftist political and parody art.
So very sorry to hear of his passing. I never knew the particulars, but had long assumed he wasn't in the best of health.
RIP, sir.

Yes - he was a major sucker for Clintons and relished the role. LOL - he certainly could be a tool. ; )

(5,165 posts)When I fired up my 1999 iMac, Bartcop was the first political webpage I encountered. If it wasn't for Bart's links wouldn't have found Democratic Underground!
I was so hurt when Media Whores Online was silenced. Bart's loss hurts a lot more.
Never got a chance to have a shot of Chinaco with him.
Now it's time for us to carry on and go get them Republican Bastards.

(26,877 posts)...two of my oldest friends on DU. Back in the day (2003-ish) I was alg0912, and, for an odd reason, Dennis Donovan, at one time here as well (no sock-puppetry, just trying to lay low after a terrible time in my life). But, I've been here the entire time since March 2002. Bart's passing is bringing back so many memories of DU pre-2003. I came here because of a link on Bartcop.com. Stunned, bewildered, and feeling the fool that I believed in what was taught to me by teachers I thought were truthful and, at times, even valiant.
I've learned more about life and truth from you both (and DU as a whole), and from Bartcop.
I sit here in awe of you and of our departed friend. I am richer for knowing you all.

RIP, Terry. And thank you. You gave me so much hope when I needed it most.

Excerpt:
Where does mere coincidence end and meaningful patterns begin? Even if the events in Florida listed here
(along with the more detailed reports being filed by investigative journalists) are removed from the context
of covert actions, it is easy to conclude that something profoundly disturbing happened in the previous election.
Note: This is almost too intelligent to be on bartcop.com
Be sure and check this out.

I'm due to resubscribe to DU, but think I'll send the money Bart's way instead. Without him, I wouldn't be here. And though I haven't read him as often in recent years as I did in 2001, I still looked in from time to time and was always entertained. I'm just sorry he never got his opportunity to debate Rush.

(31,706 posts)...we set up Bartcop Radio back when podcasts and internet radio were not even heard of. He was the quickest wit and could always turn a phrase...two elements that made for great listening. He was also fun to work with...who'd never say quit even when people said he couldn't do something. He was always a joy to talk to...especially politics...but a conversation never stayed on that topic long before it strayed to music or travel or his love of Anne (I only knew of her as Mrs. Bartcop) and his ability to beat the daylights out of anyone at a poker table.
Safe passage and many thanks my great friend...we hope to carry and hammer on as you would have wished...

(5,105 posts)He ran my character's audio several times and also usually ran the stuff I'd written and sent him, and often linked to the site I'd volunteered my skills to.
We made plans to meet on one of his California trips. Once I got a phone call from him or his local friend, but I guess they thought they had a wrong number when I sounded vastly different from what he'd heard so often, from my audio files and call-ins when he was being interviewed.

(50,557 posts)BC history: Kathleen Willey was the woman who falsely claimed Bill Clinton groped her near the White House, and Julie Hiatt Steele was one of her friends at the time.
To cut down on a lot of typing, I present this link: http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2001/03/hiat-m09.html
All this shit put her in significant financial straits, so she opened a PayPal account to use to help raise money. Enter the freepers: They found out about it and, knowing PayPal charges the recipient of a transfer 25 cents, donated a million dollars to her...one cent at a time. (The $1M may be a bit high, but the fact they left her owing PayPal a vast amount of money is true.)
Bart knew about her situation and organized a big fundraising party for her. It was a great success, but as soon as she got the money something went wrong - did she just forget he existed or did she actively start dumping on him? Either way, it really hurt Bart.

(4,883 posts)He was hurt. Never a good deed goes unpunished.
But, for those of us who got to spend a little time with the big names and all of the other folks, there is little room for regret.
I might have a little regret about dancing on one of Carville's tables.

(1,408 posts)Over the years I had a few communications with him and he was always truthful and nice. We're about the same age (I'll be 59 in May). Maybe that has something to do with the shock even though I had a bit of a bad feeling reading his post on Feb. 18.
I found DU because of him.
He had been talking about a Bartfest in Colorado this month or next.
I tried a couple of types of Chinaco and could take it or leave it.
His trip reports complete with pics were real good.
Damn Terry, I can't believe you're gone.
I don't know if you can get these any more. I got a set of 4 for $35 in 2006. The pic is from Here. Aug. 9, 2006, http://www.bartcop.com/1815.htm
