(9,610 posts)What is your point?
The official story is, at minimum, NOT the whole truth.
Or, do you blindly believe Bush/Cheney/et al?

(9,610 posts)But, I also do not believe the story that was methodically force fed to the public either.

(4,185 posts)But to watch someone like Rachel maddow denigrate truthers is akin to watching her defend Bush.

(9,610 posts)Slippery slope is used to discredit ANY questioning of the "official" 9/11 story.
nyquil_man
(1,443 posts)That slippery slope is a tricky thing, though, as it's also used to condemn anyone who doesn't think 9/11 was an inside job as someone who blindly believes the "official story" as laid out by "Bush/Cheney/et al."

(9,610 posts)there were different camps.
Think MIHOP vs LIHOP. There was a time on DU when these subjects were not "forbidden" or regulated to conspiracy theory status.
We are just to look "Forward" now.
We can not win this thing by glossing over recent past happenings and letting the history get written by those we oppose.

(65,466 posts)Why was it so hard to believe that self-serving narcissists like Bush and Cheney who dramatically failed upward their whole lives had sufficient hubris and were incompetent enough to simply have missed the signals to avoid 9/11?
No LIHOP or MIHOP or inside job necessary. Just gross incompetence exacerbated by the hubris of believing one can do no wrong because they've gotten away with failure their whole lives.
Why the need to explore it more deeply and taking it to the point that those that dismiss the other theories are considered blind sheep?
PowerToThePeople
(9,610 posts)Gross incompetence is a reasonable answer to me as well (at least as far as Bush goes.) I think Cheney is pretty damn smart though, not too much would get past him. He is definitely very evil, but very smart.

(65,466 posts)IMO, he is at best average. He has a gift for grifting and a gift for making contacts with like minded people who are simply not as smart as he.

(9,610 posts)I honestly have no real way to measure. I may just have towed the CEO="smart person" line undeservedly.

(21,475 posts)It makes one wonder if anything they said had any truth to it. They fabricated almost everything at every opportunity. Because of that factor alone many if not most Americans were left with much doubt.

(1,443 posts)could avoid the conclusion that the Bush Administration, for whatever reason, failed to prevent 9-11. The August PDB, the Phoenix memo, the recollections of Richard Clarke and Coleen Rowley, et cetera, all point to that conclusion. All are part of the "official story."
The question, for me, is why they failed. Was it incompetence or malevolence? The "official story" tends to point toward the former. I assume you're inclined toward the latter.
But, again, none of this has anything to do with the OP, which deals only with those who regard 9-11 as an inside job.
