To the Admin. I looked for a "memorial" page for things like this but didn't see one. She mostly posted in GD so I hope you will let this stay,.
My dear sister, known here as SmileyRose, passed on Friday morning. The last thing she said to me involved laughter.
Rose spent her life taking care of other people. We teased her that she had a weakness for 3 legged dogs. She always patted the chickens before taking the eggs. She was found regularly on her knees in the garden telling the veggies how yummy they would be. She liked sensible shoes, only owned 1 purse at a time, but had dozens of dollar store reading glasses around that she could never seem to find. And she hoarded pieces of beautiful fabric mostly vintage - always intending to make them into something but never finding a purpose important enough to cut into the fabric.
She was quirky and sometimes unreasonable and I am going to miss her so damn much.
Rose begged me to join DU for a long time - told me you all were the best bunch a body could ever fall in with. I finally agreed after she found out she was sick. I believe this link is her last post here. She thought so highly of DU I thought you all should know.

(9,463 posts)Here's part of what she had to say:
I am dying.
Sorry but I don't know how to sugar coat that.
I hope the mods will allow this to stay since most of my post are in this forum.
A rare cancer with a dismal survival rate. Even with aggressive treatment the majority don't make it 2 yrs. I'm electing to use whatever holistic measures I can to slow it down and let nature take it's course. We barely make it as it is. I can't leave my disabled husband with that kind of medical debt that at best will buy me months..... miserable months. Who knows, maybe I'll find the magic herbal blend..... After a few days of wallowing in obscene grief, I'm OK at this particular moment.
I may stop in a few times while I can but probably not much. A lot to mentally and spiritually process... a lot to do to get my husband set up as good as I can. And there's my bucket list. While I'm still thinking reasonably straight, I wanted to take a few very selfish moments to thank all of you with all my heart for what you've given me over the years.

(27,985 posts)and thank you KentuckyWoman for letting us know about your huge loss. May the love of strangers out here in the WWW help hold you as you take this sad journey. Know that anything you feel right now, anything - joy, anger, hurt, grief, it's all going to come to visit and it's all okay. I didn't say it doesn't hurt like hell. Losing family is astoundingly painful. It can also be just astounding at times.
We are a bunch of egotistical jerks until it matters and then we round the wagons. This is one of those times.
Blessed be during this time.
