The pragmatist point of view is that since there are no practical consequences that depend on whether the proposition is true or not, you're free to believe what you will.
The empiricist point of view (Hawking) is that there is presently no tangible evidence.
Spinoza, a scholasticist, argues "Things could have been produced by God in no other way, and in no other order than they have been produced".
The God hypothesis, like a good conspiracy theory, can't be disproved with evidence, so why try?
