Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI was impressed with the Charlie Crist interview on Bill Maher.
I know that will not be a popular view here at all, but it is quite true. Though I have disagreed with many of his views in the past, I will vote for him for governor.
I plan to order his book, it sounds most interesting.
We are always trying to get politicians to change their mind more to our way of thinking as liberals. Then when someone has the courage to do so, to be honest about where his old party has gone, he gets blasted from both sides.
To be frank, I realize that politicians this year will take more populist stands during their campaigns, even though they will take a hard right if elected. But I believe he is one of those who truly despises what the GOP has become.
His openness about the racial overtones of the Tea party criticism and hate of Obama was refreshing. I was glad to hear him say it was time for the Cuban embargo to end.
I don't care much for his support of charter schools, but after all look what Rick Scott has done to education here. There is no comparison.
I like Nan Rich very much, but I don't think she stands a chance against Rick Scott.
It was deja vu all over again when the Third Way's spokesperson said Crist's populist stances would lose the election for Democrats. Just like its previous persona, the DLC, attacked Howard Dean with a vengeance for being anti-war. They even called a press conference to announce he would not be president.
It was an impressive conversation between Maher and Crist. I think he can beat Scott, and I will do what I can to help.
Not a popular view, not a popular topic, but many of my posts are not popular either. They are honest posts though, and I think that still matters.

(22,990 posts)Charlie Crist, the former Republican governor of Florida, spent years in the partys inner circle. In this no-holds-barred memoir, he shows why he switched sides and became a Democrat.

(45,319 posts)I will never forget Charlie on TV explaining to the world that Sarah Palin was more ready to be President that Obama or Biden and I recall he chanted 'drill here, drill now' with her on stage.
His recounting of how 'they' went bad leaves out those parts, in which he helped them become the Tea Party, in which he said Palin was a better choice than Obama.
He can say anything, apparently, with a casual certainty and that means when he says anything, he could mean anything else. A hard man to trust.

(6,719 posts)I saw the interview and was surprised at my positive reaction. Go Crist. Hope he pulls it off. I was OK with what he said. I am sort of finished with McCain but that is not serious to the Crist campaign. I hope he does not flip back to the right if he wins.

(9,479 posts)held on to but his history of voting shows he was never a Republican in today's sense of the word. On the issues rates him based only on his past voting pattern and he rates a moderate liberal populist.
