Some of you may remember the African-American man who posted a picture of him brushing one of his daughters' hair while holding the other in a baby carrier. The man's name is Doyin Richards and after the picture was posted he started receiving hate mail.
When I first heard about the hate mail I thought it would be questioning his manhood. However, most of the hate mail shown in the video linked to below was racist. There were comments like "Now hand the children back to their real mom and go back to selling drugs", "Is that how you treat all you illegimate children", "He probably rented those kids, they don't even look like him". One of the comments attacked him for not marrying an African-American woman. "I'm sorry, but I cannot support a brotha who didn't marry a black woman".
There were; however, some positive comments. Numerous people stated that they did not see any problem with what he was doing. Others offered him encouragement and said if more father acted like him there would be less problems in the world.

(9,350 posts)I would have been upset about insults to his manhood, but I would not have been surprised. I was surprised at the racism. I did not think for a second that the hate mail would have been mainly composed of racist comments. Considering the reaction to the Cheerios ad, I guess I should not have been surprised.

(10,745 posts)Doyin Richards seems to be a really good guy; it saddens me to see such vitriol directed towards this fellow for just posting a picture and a rather cute one at that. It's 2014, you think people would know better.....but I guess some still don't.....
