President Obama listens to hunger striker Eliseo Medina as he and the First Lady visit with immigration protesters in their tent on the Washingon Mall November 29. Since November 12, immigration advocates comprising Fast for Families have abstained from food as they call on congress to take up action on the immigration issue.

(17,656 posts)Man, I hope those people don't fast too long because the Rethuglicans in Congress aren't even going to take up immigration this year.
Boehnor doesn't care.
I remember when President Obama called on Congress back in the spring to do something about immigration, and then later in June he said that he was hopeful they would take up the issue before they went on their summer recess in August.
Didn't happen.
And I don't think Boehnor is going to lift a finger to do anything about it before the end of the year.
Boehnor hasn't even passed a Farm Bill through the House yet.
And he's the one in charge of the House!!!
We need to take back control of the House really bad next year.

(297,407 posts)them fasting too long. I wouldn't think they could go into next year.
The President has been out there calling attention to Immigration Reform and feels strongly about it too .. no wonder he visited their tent for support!
Boehner most certainly doesn't care.. he's only interested in more Food Stamp cuts.
To Cleaning House GOTV 2014!

(83,826 posts)It does in fact look like cleaning the house will be the only way to get this done, Cha.

"We agree that we need to pass comprehensive immigration reform. But at the same time you have the power to stop deportations for all undocumented immigrants in the country," Hong yelled.
"Actually, I don't," Obama responded.
"If in fact I could solve all these problems without passing laws in Congress, then I would do so. But we are also a nation of laws," Obama continued. "And so the easy way out is to try to yell and pretend I can try and do something by violating our laws. And what I am proposing is the harder path, which is to use our democratic process to achieve the same goal you want to achieve."
But if that doesn't work, reform supporters are also gearing up for next year's elections, when they hope to send a message by targeting Republicans in congressional districts where demographics give Latino voters more clout.
"As much as it looks bleak for action this year, we haven't given up," said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, a Washington, D.C.-based organization that champions comprehensive immigration reform. "If this Congress doesn't get immigration reform done, then a lot of us are going to work as hard as we can to elect a Congress in 2014 that will."
