Had the editor on from Time who did this week's cover story on the 50th Anniversary of the assassination.
Pretty good tag team effort against the conceit that lies behind the CTs.

If that's a kick in the nuts, then Tweety needs harder boots or better leg work-outs.

(4,858 posts)I was ten when JFK was killed. In college I read the Warren Report and the 26 supporting volumes of "evidence". I also read the HSCA report, and their volumes of supporting evidence. I have also read at least 100 books on the case, and followed it on the internet. I have no theories on the case, for the good and simple reason that the murder of JFK was never seriously investigated. Once Hoover made his "lone nut" declaration, all serious investigation stopped. This meant that amateurs would by necessity do the investigating.
I can say that the Lone Gunman theory is untenable. Believing the Warren Report is the moral and intellectual equivalent of believing the Moscow Trials. Apart from that, there isn't enough evidence for a theory. The American people have always realized this in their bones, and their scepticism in the face of what their betters in the government and media say on this issue is a great tribute to them. The media will never, ever admit they were wrong on this issue, no matter what evidence does--or does not--emerge, because the legitimacy--such as it is--if the mainstream media is intrinsically tied up with their defense of the Warren Report. (The HSCA Report, which postulated a conspiracy, made almost no impact on the media class.) This is probably the single greatest reason why the American people have lost respect for the mainstream media, a fact that is obvious to everyone except the media class itself.
Maybe the truth will come out someday, maybe not. It took 130 years for the basic parameters of the Lincoln assassination to become clear--that the Confederate Secret Service really was behind it. It took 75 years before the corrupt conspiracy behind the 1876 election came out. We will go to our graves uncertain as to what really happened in Dallas in 1963.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
