With Thanksgiving just around the corner, make sure your kitchen is stocked with union-made-in-America food, beverages and sweets. Here are just a few of the many products made by members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW).
Planning to toast the holidays? Look for union-made beer and wine.

Tyson workers approve new 5-year contract
WATERLOO Iowa --- United Food and Commecial Workers Local 431, which represents workers at Tyson Fresh Meats in Waterloo, has ratified a new five-year labor contract.
The deal provides some of the key points union representatives had asked for on behalf of 2,200 members who work at the pork plant, said Bob Waters, UFCW business representative.
Employees will see a 45-cent per hour raise for the first year of the contract, a 25-cent per hour increase each year from the second through the fourth years of the agreement and a 30-cent per hour pay hike the final year of the contract, Waters said.
The proposal was approved unanimously --- a rarity in a situation that seldom makes everyone happy, Waters added.

(8,267 posts)exploiting the locals in his quest for domination of the chicken market, the mere mention of a union is anathema to the local Sheeple, who are well trained corporate sycophants.
Tyson, with the help of his good buddy Clinton, became the worst polluter in Northwest Arkansas, rumored to have spread raw pig sewage on remote private property (he beat that rap, but who else ran a business that generated that much pig sewage in this neck of the woods?).
I would have to conclude that one enclave of unionized workers does not qualify Tyson for inclusion on your list.

(8,267 posts)Even before I became a Vegan, I refused to buy Tyson products because of his exploitation of workers, his abusive treatment of animals, and his careless pollution of the beautiful Ozarks. I encourage everyone to boycott Tyson.

(99,818 posts)But I'm sure much of the food we buy in restaurants is Tyson. We buy the local Smart Chicken brand. A much better product that doesn't cheat it's workers. And is much more humane.
About 75% of Tyson's 41 plants are unionized. That is a good enough score card to be on the list.

Something to cluck about
At New Frontiers, we take pride in the chicken we sell. We feel it is the freshest, safest, and most flavorful chicken you can buy. Our Smart Chicken is air-chilled, unlike most other chickens sold in the U.S., which are chilled in water baths. In the process of being submerged in water, chickens absorb the water, which adds mass but does not add flavor. If anything, it dilutes the flavor.
Another concern about water cooling is that the bath becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, thus contributing to contamination and the spread of food borne diseases. Smart Chickens are raised in a free range environment by family farmers without the use of antibiotics, hormones or animal by-products. They are certified humane raised and handled.

(15,682 posts)Thanks, Omaha Steve. There was a time when I might make the effort to buy strictly American. Then again, if in a rush, I might not. I'm so pissed off anymore, I will make the effort.

(8,267 posts)lack of response to this OP rather distressing? I do wish people would support unions and US owned, fully unionized companies.

(49 posts)100% Union support would be a requirement to be a member of the democratic party, alas I am not in charge so we end up with either out right union hostility or indifference.
Heck I bet if you took a poll of the members on this site you would find that less then 35% of the people here even own a UAW/CAW Made Automobile.
Union is now a dirty word for many in the Democratic party and America Today.
