As I'm sure you know, lots of people believe it's much more than just a movie. It isn't.

... which made it all the more disappointing to me in terms of the indulgence of creepy violence-porn. The glorification of the extended program of torture of Natalie Portman as a necessary aid to her political education and spiritual development was downright demented.

The Guy Fawkes meme was adopted by the bigotry-and-violence-advocacy libertarian fringe of the 9/11 Truth movement in a very confused way. On the one hand they had Barry Zwicker claiming that Guy Fawkes was innocent, he'd been set up, he was a patsy. On the other they were promoting a movie featuring a vigilante terrorist and which seemed to be glorifying Guy Fawkes as a genuine violent revolutionary patriot.

The Fifth of November

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

11. And poor Guy died in a way

in a way that makes the term "medieval" seem namby pamby by comparison. He was wracked and beaten and otherwise treated to good old English justice (and i do mean "old" English justice) and, it is said, had to be helped up the steps of the gallows where he was finally hanged, much to his own relief, I suspect. Alas, the London crowds did not get to see him quartered and drawn while he was still alive and screaming. But the executioners did get to defile his dead body for the pleasure and amusement of the crowd.

Now, I don't think Mr. Fawkes' end is a form of justice we should necessarily consider for the current 1-5%. But I'm thinking that the 1-5% have among them many who would consider -- and enjoy administering - it to selected "conspirators" among us.

"Go Guy, Light That Powder!" -- (just snarking, NSA, just snarking.)

13. V for Vendetta originally was a graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd

I thought both the novel and movie was cool.

V is decidedly [link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchismh]anarchistic[/url] in his politics though it must be noted that the a majority of anarchists would never employ the methods that V used.

For one thing, the majority of anarchists are pacifists though a few consider violent revolution and propaganda of the deed necessary to bring about a change in status quo and a form of resistance to coercive authorities and organizations.

Pacifists don't make very good comic book characters, lol.

That's an important point. Our world view is much influenced by memes and constructs that are an artifact
of the dramatists' need to dramatize.

I remember a writing workshop leader telling us something along the lines of "highly evolved people are rarely
interesting characters".
