The AM radio station I listen to most of the time carries CBS news and talk most of the time, but they're also broadcasting the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball games. Annoying, but I still had the radio on as I was drifting off last night. The Wolves were playing the New York Knicks (Wolves won).
Anyhow, I kept thinking I was hearing "World Peace" as the name of one of the Knicks' players. I kept trying to hear it correctly, but it kept sounding like the player's name was "World Peace." Weird. Was I not comprehending some unusual name?
Nope. There is a new Knicks player with the name, Metta World Peace. I checked Google this morning. Formerly named Ron Artest, the player changed his name. It's certainly a memorable name.
Apparently, Mr. World Peace also has a penchant for making interesting statements to the media. I think I'll be watching for this guy's comments.
I know this is a sports figure, but it's an interesting story, generally, so I posted it in General Discussion.

(25,816 posts)When he was Ron Artest he was in a brawl. I remember him running up in the seats a punching a heckling fan.
He served a record suspension for that one.

(18,402 posts)and I knew Metta World Peace.
And I should be happy that the Wolves beat the Knicks, since I lived in Mpls. for 15 years. But I also lived in New York during the time when the Knicks reigned supreme, with Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, et al. And that was when I loved basketball the most. So the Knicks will always sort of be my team.
Go Bulls! (My new home-town team)
(I've left out two other of my home teams: the Pacers (which didn't exist when I grew up in Indpls., but basketball was huge) and the Celtics (during my five-year stint in Boston.)
Peace to all the teams.
