When someone stole 19-year-old Olgi Freyres beloved bicycle, she didnt just get upset, she publicly posted an angry note to the thief, hoping he would see it. Luckily, a Good Samaritan read it and bought her a new bike.

That day, a passerby snapped a photo of the note and tweeted it. By the time Freyre woke up on Tuesday morning, she had dozens of phone calls from local news reporters, inquiring about her bike. A news story aired that night and caught the attention of Chicago resident Robert Curry, 59, a senior vice president at Morgan Stanley.

Curry emailed the news station, hoping someone could connect the two of them, and then called Freyre and asked if she could meet him at Kozy's Cyclery, a local bike shop, and to bring along a friend

Curry wants nothing in return for his gesture, but theres one caveat: I told Olgi that she could have the bike on the condition that before her 59th birthday, she must buy a bike for someone in her shoes, he says. She has 40 years to fulfill that promise.

Great story to start the weekend! My only thing is...Wow! a $700 dollar bike? I bought my first car for $300.

(68,918 posts)Her title? Executive Vice President. What did that get her? No perks, just the title and $45K a year.
Sometimes good deeds are just that. Good deeds.
Thank you.

(68,644 posts)If we can't accept good deeds at face value without doubting sincerity, then why even try?
Good grief. I know somebody who works at Morgan Stanley and she does not eat babies.

(68,918 posts)He seemed rather sincere to me.
And she seems like she will pay it forward.

(3,922 posts)He got this big photo op and a story in the paper. What more positive PR could he get?
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)believe that he did it because he's a good guy. See my post up above.
The world needs less cranky, judgmental people and more people like this man. We also need to stop hating people for their success when they try to do something good. It says more about us...than them.
And, on edit, have a nice weekend and try to get some rest.
Thank you.

(3,922 posts)I would think that any person that truly wanted to do good would do it without the pomp and circumstance.
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)He is awesome for buying the bike. She has made a new friend in his daughter. Sorry, to judge that is to be truly petty.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)I would've just bought her the bike, knocked on her door, and left without the photo op and news story.
But hey, I'm not a Senior Vice President of Morgan Stanley.

I don't see any point made at all, except for perhaps people shouldn't be allowed to succeed in business.
Again, my mother "Executive Vice President" Huntington Banks. Pretty title isn't it? $45K a year with no perks. Titles are a dime a dozen.
This guy rocks. I hope we see more stories like this because they are truly inspiring. He changed that girl's whole outlook and gave her her self worth back. Awesome dude.

(3,922 posts)to give himself good PR. This is no different.
This senior VP of Morgan Stanley has inspired me to help others without bringing attention to myself.

(68,918 posts)He's just a guy. Doing a good thing. Sometimes good deeds are good deeds. I hope someone does something nice for you someday. Or, that we can all emulate this man's action and get out there (whether it's based on a story that's already in the news or just getting up off of our duffs and getting out there) and do good regardless of our station in life. People like this amaze me.

(53,975 posts)They stopped by a place we had walked by when in NOLA. I'll drop you line. I am wondering how your kiddo is doing. Is he about to go to college soon?
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)You wouldn't recognize him. He's super tall. Driving me a little bit crazy with teenage socializing and everything, but he's a good kid. That weekend in NOLA was so much fun and a memory I will always treasure. How are your kids doing? My neighbor (born and raised in New Orleans) just rescued a black lab named Voodoo, and it made me think of your little ones.
Behind the Aegis
(53,975 posts)Yeah, I had a blast that weekend.
We added a member to the family when we came to OK. Her name is Zatanna. That makes four Chihuahuas now! The cat hates us! LOL!
I wish we could have another fun weekend. We'll have to see what we can plan. Dallas could be fun...
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)Chihuahuas must be like potato chips (you can't have just one).
Definitely let's plan to do something soon. I always mean to drive through Tulsa on my way up to MI sometime just to drop in on you.

(53,975 posts)Even if just a quick visit, it would be nice. We'd love to have you drop in for a visit. Y'all could actually stay at our house, we have room now! LOL!
Yes, we love our babies. I have to avoid the pet store when there are Chis present...too tempting. We dressed them up for Halloween; the kids loved them, some parents too...no hot daddies though.
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)No hot daddies here on Halloween either...but a lot of kids. I bet they looked cute all dressed up!

Lock your bike anyway, it prevents opportunity theft, but the days when a good kryptonite lock actually protected your bike are long gone.
