Advertisers are dropping like dead flies as they should from Rush Limbaugh. People are calling in and writing to their local stations and advertisers everywhere to drop him. People are demanding that if they walk into an establishment that he not be on the radio or they wont patronize the establishment. But what about all around the world where this vile hateful speech is being broadcast daily to troops and supported with our tax dollars?
I havent seen it here or missed it, but I think the biggest target to drop broadcasting Rush's hate is of all: AFN-Armed Forces Radio....why are our taxpayer dollars funding this hateful piece of crap to be broadcast to all of our Troops across the WORLD? How do you think this makes our women in uniform feel? Does it make them in a safe environment if this is the garbage being spewed? And its not as if that broadcast is ONLY heard by the soldiers...its HEARD by ALL! Which means in the very same countries in the Middle East where we claim to want to help women get educated and have rights, places where a woman is treated like property and can be killed for even merely being accused of adultery, that they are hearing this broadcast???
I had family in Europe say they have heard this and they are disgusted....how about how this makes the US look that we "broadcast" this vile hate on our military radio channels around the world?
I demand to have AFN no longer with our tax dollars support this hate speech. It could even be argued that this vile hate talk could cause problems for our troops and set back what we diplomatically and in relationships set out internationally. Rush Limbaugh should NOT be allowed to be the "Voice of America" via Armed Forces Radio (and our tax dollars).
Any suggestions for how to make this happen and get our members of congress to not be funding it?

(13,776 posts)For some reason, when I clicked directly on the link I couldn't get in, but when I cut and pasted the link it worked fine (and automatically added an "s" after "http" .
If anyone else has trouble with that link, maybe this one will work for them like it did for me:

(13,180 posts)Tricare covers contraception, and it truly is on the taxpayer dime. Rush Limbaugh on AFN is sexual harassment. It creates a hostile work environment and promotes disrespect for women in the military.

(82,383 posts)Troop entertainment has changed since the days of Bob Hope, that's for sure. Do the troops really prefer Rush to something else? These are generally young people, who I would think would prefer rock music.

(374 posts)AFN Eagle for example is more like what you are describing and plays a collection of rock/pop/top 40 with country on Sunday.
AFN Powernet has more spoken word and commentary but also has music. It depends where you are and what you can get.
Either way I filled out surveys for TV and radio preferences when I served in Europe. If he is there, up to this point, I imagine it is because the is a demand for it.
If you think about it, it isn't overly surprising either. It is the biggest radio program in America and that would translate to the US troop population overseas.

(33,956 posts)Had to just cut national politics off of my radar because I can not effect them and it was really causing me to be an angry person. All I can do is show up to vote when it is time. That is the extent of my national participation and really, they should be grateful they have that, lol.
However...my focus has strictly become local and the issues that I CAN cause action on...like this! That is where my time, energy and money go these days. I am finding it very rewarding.
Very nice to see you!

I wrote my senator Patty Murray because she is involved in the military. It helps to be able to mention one of my kids is married to military and I don't want my daughter and grandkids listening to that.
