Eyewitness News
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned that the case against an undercover NYPD officer involved in the motorcycle assault case is proceeding and sources say criminal charges are expected in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Sources now say another video obtained by Internal Affairs contradicts the original story of the off-duty undercover detective, who admitted being in the group of bikers on the West Side highway, but claimed he only saw the tail end of the attack uptown. The detective claimed he drove away without taking any action to avoid blowing his cover, but we've been told he can be seen punching the rear window of the SUV, which later shattered, throwing a kick at the passenger door, and then speeding off on his bike. The Police Commissioner today, not saying much.
"We have put a police officer on modified assignment and the investigation is going forward. We anticipate identifying more people," NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.
Sources say a second detective is also believed to have been among the riders, but not present for the attack. That detective is already on modified duty after being arrested in August during a domestic dispute at an intersection in Queens. The criminal complaint says the cop went after a responding officer: "He shoved him in his chest several times in a forceful manner." The charges will be dismissed if the detective stays out of trouble for six months.

I think I'll be staying off the Henry Hudson for a while. Those bike guys also seem to wreak havoc on the Sprain pretty often.

(23,973 posts)They knew all along cops were part of it and let them act with impunity.
There are no secrets, people talk, word gets out, "Hey, some of those guys are our guys, let 'em go."
In broad daylight, shutting down entire roads, hundreds of calls coming in each time it happens...nary a patrol car in sight.
Right.

(23,973 posts)You can block the entire road with police vehicles, from shoulder to shoulder.
You can then box them in from behind as all traffic comes to a complete halt.
It is done all the time, it is an accepted practice, and it works.
Look at some of the videos of where the were riding, there are places that could be made inescapable for anyone driving any type of motor vehicle, including a motorcycle.
The will to do so was missing on the part of LEO...maybe because cops were unwilling to arrest other cops engaged in criminal activity.
This will now change.

(28 posts)They apparently do this brake check thing quite often as a shakedown to get money from unsuspecting drivers.
