Futile Democracy:Wordpress
The Speaker of the House is in a dire political position. It is perhaps the most unstable his unstable leadership tenure has been. There is no leadership control. It appears to have been conceded the far right of his Party who now apparently control the strategy of the GOP entirely. Unless Democrats suddenly cave to Tea Party demands which they have no reason to, especially given that the majority of the public blame Republicans for the shutdown then there is no victory for Speaker Boehner. There is only catastrophic failure for his legacy as Speaker of the House. One that has no real end game for him, but resignation.
In interviews this weekend, the Speaker attempted to shift the narrative from a shutdown over the Affordable Care Act, to a shutdown over the debt limit. It seems Boehners original plan had been to pass a clean CR, and to then use the debt limit as leverage for spending cuts. This plan was thrown into the flames not be the Speaker of the House, but by a junior Senator from Texas who had no end strategy, no plan to ensure coverage for the 870,000 uninsured children in his own State, but instead spent time reading Dr Seuss. The Speaker is completely at the mercy of the Cruz Republicans.

(1,301 posts)It is mind boggling he has no one he respects/listens to
that would help him through this and do the right thing
for the country.

(25,757 posts)Boehner may be doomed from his party if he succumbs to the pressure and calls for a clean vote and he might lose his job as Speaker - but - does he really want to put up with this stress going forward? If he continues this and brings down the economy of the U.S. and - who knows - maybe the world - what will his legacy as Speaker be then?
If he resigns as Speaker or if he is voted out as Speaker - he will still be a Congressman. I understand he's pretty secure in his district. So I don't think he will lose his House seat.
And if he does - he'll wind up with a high paying job on K Street as a lobbyist.

(1,301 posts)if he stood with the group/majority? who wants to pass the CR what would the
tea party group do to oust him?or could 30 do that?
Also, I have been thinking he is letting this go so long so the t-party grp
will hang themselves in their districts and be ousted..

(25,757 posts)succeeding and doing exactly what they intended to do - bring government down. I think the money backers of the Tea Party will put more money behind other potential Tea Party candidates and many of the more moderate Repugs will be primaried whether or not they currently support the Tea Party. I don't think that many of these Tea Party candidates would win and perhaps they would even push the people in the districts that they run in to vote for the Dem. Some would probably win - but overall the Repugs will lose the House in 2014. So the Tea Party might win the battle - but in the end they would lose the war.
I see a Dem controlled House, Senate and Presidency in 2014. I'm keeping my hopes up that things could only get better. I think the American Public will react and this will be the outcome.

(15,071 posts)what he thinks is right since he has joined the teabagger rightwing. He is now a full-fledged teabagger and is not being controlled by anyone. This is the way he wants it to be and the default on the US debt is his goal. He is as crazy as Louie Gohmert or Micelle Bachman.

(1,301 posts)had no idea he was that bad.I honestly thought he had a strategy
of some sort other than defaulting...
