I just paid over $300 in overage fees to Verison wireless and I was never told that I could go

"over" on the damn internet when I signed up with them in the first place! I still find it hard to believe you can go "over" on the internet! Is this some new damn scam?

I swear to you I wasn't told anything about usage when I bought the router and signed my life away with Verison. And yes I got a couple emails talking about overages but my Mom is nice enough to have me on her Verison cell phone plan so I thought that was a mistake and forwarded the emails to her because once we both went over on the cell phones. I even checked my cell phone usage and made sure I was OK with that. I never thought it was about the internet!

But now I am totally screwed! This is a lot of money and I don't think I should pay it but I don't know how to not pay it. They are supposed to give me $60 back, at least she said she would, but I haven't seen it on my Verison page site yet.

And get this. While I was talking to her earlier I was at 1.5 GB used and I turned the computer off because I was so upset and now that I have turned it back on I am at 1.7 GB. WTF! Is it that easy to go from 1.5 to 1.7 GB?
It could be that the day had changed since it went past 12am and now we are into March 3rd instead of the 2nd when I technically talked to her.

But even when I just have my computer on the internet light comes on and my router starts blinking. The damn waves are running through my freaking head even when I am not "on" the internet.

If I need to put this in the computer section please tell me or tell me where I should put it. I thought it might be something that others are experiencing and a new scam that is just coming out and might be good right here though.

1. And while they are raping you for money they are watching your every action. If I were you, I would

switch to another service even if I had to pay a penalty. But that is just me. My service is through my cable company. I pay the exact same fee every month no matter how many hours I am on the internet.

2. Thank you that is a good idea. I hadn't even thought of that.

I'd just been stuck on dsl thinking and that was making me more depressed.

3. Are you VZ wireless (cellphone) or VZ home broadband?

There should be no limits on VZ home broadband.

If you got a VZ wireless card/modem *that* may have a limit. It is like a USB dongle that you plug into the laptop and can take anywhere. Is that what you have?

4. I'm with AT&T. We get unlimted phone & messaging if we connect thru the router and use Wi-Fi.

Our bills were really high two months in a row. I looked at the details and saw that my daughter was running up big cell phone bills. Called AT&T, who said she was going over her limit because she was connecting through the 3G network, rather than WiFi. They refunded the two months of overages and put her on a higher monthly data plan which I'm monitoring for usage. if she doesn't get close to going over, I can cut it back.

Everybody complains about AT&T, and their routers suck because they're unreliable (we're constantly rebooting ours), but they're pretty good on customer service.

5. I switched from VZ cell because even if I checked the day before the end of the period

and it said i was okay on usage, I would get an overage bill, the last one being $85. I said forget that and moved to AT&T where I can use rollover minutes. I'm not sure if their data meters are as bad as their minutes meters but that thing is off.

I like the way the iPad shuts off 3G when I use my 2 gigs. Then I won't be shocked over my bill.

6. They sent you e-mails warning you.

I would think you don't have a leg to stand on. I'm amazed you got a $60 credit. Why did you assume the e-mails were a "mistake" instead of following up on them? I guarantee the usage limits are in your (or your mother's) contract. Every service I've ever heard of does this, even cable companies.

On edit: Btw, I have AT&T, too, never had a problem except for the first month with my new phone when I thought I could get by with their cheapest data plan. Even then, they started sending regular warnings when I hit 80% of my limit, with an option to upgrade on the spot via the text message. As the others have stated, no charge for wifi use, and there is a button on my phone giving pretty detailed usage stats. Not much excuse to be "surprised" by the charges.
