(149,985 posts)Wait until next week. Then it should be much better.
There is a lot of pent-up demand right now.

(430 posts)You should have seen NeoGAF yesterday when Valve registered the Half Life 3 trademark. I was waiting for a mushroom cloud on the horizon from their servers exploding.
Healthcare.gov will hit smooth sailing tomorrow or the day after as the traffic spike dwindles and new servers are brought online.

(4,138 posts)Server administrators design the capacity for their expected daily load. Anytime a service with a lot of hype and pent-up demand goes online, this happens for a few days. It will settle down when everyone isn't all trying to get on at the same time.
No evil schemes, just networking infrastructure logistics in action.

(7,576 posts)...just to shut down the system. They have done this sort of thing on election day to the Dem. headquarter phone lines calling people to go vote.

(38,187 posts)Then, it tells me the server is down. I'll wait a few days then try again. It is probably just the sheer volume of people trying to get in there.

(4,840 posts)The GOP shutdown and all the talk about Obamacare has been a boon for the exchanges and people's attention to the fact the sign up starts at the same time as the shutdown. Supporters of the plan like me couldn't have planned it better if we had been responsible for getting the word out ourselves.

(22,308 posts)Or get better coverage.. both would be best.
Mostly curious for myself and trying to help a couple people I know who are not insured.
I guess it is just my bad luck that I can't log in.

(38,613 posts)There aren't enough of them to make any impact. I suppose someone out there might try to overload the servers, but for now I believe it's simply a higher-than-expected demand. I'll revise that belief if there are still problems next week

no luck.
Will not put it pass the repubs to sabotage the rolling out.

(130,690 posts)and was able to get around okay and even got a list of local offices that were providing additional help (which was interesting info for me, since we have Cor-butt, who has abdicated his duty, so the feds are running the exchange here in PA - our "public option" ).

But I already know the plan I want and can afford - it's one from LA Care Covered.
I'll wait a bit to sign up. I was able to finally look at a list of area physicians that are part of that HMO. I am lucky to have a hospital and lots of medical offices not far from home.

Hackers blamed for New York's Obamacare site breakdown
Source: NY Post
The numbers just dont add up.
The abnormally high traffic that crippled New Yorks ObamaCare Web site for two days may have resulted from a malicious attack by hackers, computer-security experts said Wednesday.
The NY State of Health site recorded an astounding 10 million visits after opening for business Tuesday although there are only about 1.1 million state residents without health insurance and just 330,000 are expected to buy ObamaCare for next year.

If there is a possibility the NY site was hacked, there is also a possibility the national site could be a target of hackers too. It is too soon to tell, but the possibility is at least there.

(3,033 posts)I set up an account months ago. It keeps telling me to wait for the log in page. I've been waiting for 3 days, all times of day and night. I used 3 different computers, deleted the cache and cookies, 3 different browsers. Nada.
They should have had roll out over 5 days, alphabetically, by state. 10 states per day. But that's just me. Been waiting so long for this because we should save a bundle. I even checked with the state (Ohio), and they said the problem isn't on their end. Who knows.

(12,296 posts)because it took me 'too long' to respond to the validation email yesterday, so now that "me" is somewhere in cyberspace.
Tried to open a new account with my work-email and made it thru the validation process, only to try to log in & navigate and be told that 'the user account does not exist' & get kicked out again.
So, dunno what, but something's weird.
