Durbin: Medical device tax repeal could be ‘on the table’
Durbin: Medical device tax repeal could be ‘on the table’
Washington (CNN) - A repeal of the medical device tax may be a point of compromise between the House and Senate as the two houses of Congress work to end the government shutdown, the number two Democrat in the Senate said Tuesday. “We can work on something, I believe, on the medical device tax. That was one of the proposals from Republicans, as long as we replace the revenue,” Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois said on CNN’s “New Day.” The medical device tax is a 2.3% excise tax created to in part fund Obamacare and went into effect at the beginning of 2013. The tax is largely considered unpopular, including among some Democrats whose states harbor medical device employers. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, for example, penned an op-ed for a trade magazine advocating for a repeal last year while she was running for the Senate. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/01/durbin-medical-device-tax-repeal-could-be-on-the-table/

4. Some medical devices should be exempt
perhaps some should not.. It would depend.. A top-of-the-line Hover-round is very different from a basic wheelchair..
"Devices" such as colostomy supplies/catheters, ...stuff like that should be exempt.. There could be a closer look taken, but I'm sure whatever is done will be the most drastic thing they can do ...and whatever it is will be done to injure the ACA.. ![]() |

5. He doesn't get it
They don't care about the medical device tax per se, only insofar as it partially funds the ACA. And really they don't care about Obamacare, they're only attacking it as a way to weaken Obama.
If the President threw in the towel right now and totally gave up the ACA, it would not solve anything. They'd just find another reason to pull all these childish little games. |

11. I'm all for 'doing the right thing' even under duress.
But I don't want any more capitulation. It will only lead to further disasters down the road. I don't want Democrats to give an inch on this.
