The ACA has been in effect for four years ... its provisions having been rolled out gradually. (Some, like insuring children up to age 26 on their parents' policies went into effect early; others, such as exchanges for the uninsured or privately insured will be the last.)

Tomorrow, the exchanges will open for business. You can research or even buy an insurance policy on one of the exchanges. But that insurance doesn't go into effect until January 2014.

So, to summarize: the ACA has already been in effect, but the final provisions don't go into effect until January 2014. (And some provisions, such as the business requirement, until after that, because it's been delayed.)

I know the pain it will cause but fuck it. Shut it down. Tomorrow is a new day, October 1, 2013. The exchanges open.
