Rep. Gingrey: Im stuck here making $172,000

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) lamented in a closed-door meeting Wednesday that his staff can get rich as lobbyists while he is "stuck here making $172,000," according to the National Review Online.

NRO's Jonathan Strong reports that Gingrey said that staff may not make a lot of money on Capitol Hill, but in a few years they can just go to K Street and make $500,000 a year. Meanwhile Im stuck here making $172,000.

During the meeting, Republicans discussed a proposal to exempt lawmakers and their staff from a new law requiring them to participate in federal health-care exchanges.

Gingrey and other lawmakers expressed concern about the financial toll the new law would take on them on their staffs.

Gingrey announced in March that he would run for an open Senate seat in Georgia; he faces a crowded GOP primary field that includes Reps. Jack Kingston and Paul Broun. Two-term Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) is retiring.

81. In reality he probably will and after leaving office he'll make several million a year like most

lobbyist. When you think about it, Congressmen and women do not make a hell of a lot of money compared to banksters and CEOs. CEOs can run a company in the ground, fire workers, cut pay and still reap about 15 million and double that amount in benefits. I wish we did pay our elected official more then they could tell the folks like Koch bros to kiss off. On the other hand when you a crew like the ones in the House GOP, they shouldn't even get paid until they pass some meaningful legislation.

9. Stuck indeed !!!

The top yearly income I have ever EARNED was $36,000.00; before any deductions: federal taxes, dental insurance, health insurance, union dues, state taxes, social security etc.

I worked 12 hour shifts in temperatures above 110 degrees.

I have never worked a 40 hour work week.

I always had mandatory overtime.

I have no sympathy for someone who complains about their cushy job that only pays $172,000.00 per year.

I would have to work 4 years and 9 months to earn what this useless asshat robs from the taxpayers.

U.S. politicians are not doing their jobs.

Our imploding country is proof of my statement.

Do us all a favor and get a job in the private sector.

It is blatantly obvious you have no interest in the well being of this country or its people.

The comment incensed some of the GOP aides in the room, two of whom relayed Gingreys comments to me. One person noted that many lower-rung congressional aides make relatively low wages and have no real expectation of a future cash-out..."

Yesterday (and I apologize for not remembering who it was) said that if he loses his tax payer funded health care and has to get an ACA policy, he and his family would probably have to go without health insurance. 30. so I was googling this whining little pos' phone number, and came across this little tidbit (which

I apparently missed over the summer)

Phil Gingrey, In DOMA Speech, Says Children Should Take Classes On Traditional Gender Roles

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) told colleagues on the House floor on Tuesday that young boys and girls should take classes on traditional gender roles in a marriage because there are some things fathers do "maybe a little bit better" than mothers.

"You know, maybe part of the problem is we need to go back into the schools at a very early age, maybe at the grade school level, and have a class for the young girls and have a class for the young boys and say, you know, this is whats important," Gingrey said in a speech supporting the Defense of Marriage Act. "This is what a father does that is maybe a little different, maybe a little bit better than the talents that a mom has in a certain area. And the same thing for the young girls, that, you know, this is what a mom does, and this is what is important from the standpoint of that union which we call marriage."

Gingrey, the leading Republican candidate for Senate in Georgia, said he realizes the "father knows best" adage he subscribed to "back in the old days of television" is antiquated, but he still believes that children need fathers and women need husbands in order for families to thrive.

He's going to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Saxby Chamblis. I'm sure this slip will be used against him in the primary, my prediction is that, if anything, this might give the primary (and seat - remember that this is a highly gerrymandered Georgia district) to Paul Broun, who in many ways is scarier than Gingrey.

60. Maybe the voters can speed up his career change to rich lobbyist!

Not that most people would object to a salary of $172000 per year (even in pounds, it comes to over 100,000!)

61. Back in July Ole Phil voted AGAINST RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE

Yes the man who just complained that he makes a measly $172,000 a year (plus benefits) for the backbreaking, soul sucking job of sitting on his lazy, lily white ass, whining, thinks the guy who washes his car is making way too much money.

Asshole of the Century.

Thanks for posting this doc, I was about to start an OP myself...

for everything I've cut
Every time I've had to vote
to kiss John Boner's butt
You know I'd catch the next plane
Back to where I live
Oh Lord, I'm stuck in DC again.

67. Is he serious!

That's a hell of a lot more than the average American makes! The average salary in Tn. is like 41,000 a year. And there are plenty of people here that make less than that. What an ungrateful prick, and I would say that even if a democrat said this.

70. Obviously

he is not doing something right.

Seems a lot of the congresscritters from both sides figure out how to make a million or so on the side to supplement their measly federal pay checks.

This is a must use.

Sounds like he wants to make some sort of a deal and move into a cushy $ million lobby job.

88. Thirteenth Amendment says you're not stuck. Why did you run?

BTW, the reason that former staffers, former Senators and former Reps can go work for lobbyists are the laws you guys and gals pass.

You want to make sure your staffers can't do that, you avaricous turd? Write a frickin' bill. And if you do, please make sure the yeas and nays are taken. No hiding behind "by unanimous consent."

89. Not stuck

He ain't in jail...he could (and should) leave. When I was working full time (before I got cancer, had surgery, chemo and radiation), I worked as an RN in a hospital (I still do). I never made $172,000. I never made $100,00. I never made $72,000. I helped people, lots of them. I helped save lives. I helped suffering, I answered questions. I have had people thank me for "being there".

Has this Gingrey person ever helped anyone??? Except maybe himself and some other Republicans. Yes, I know that last was not a sentence, but I like it and I am leaving that way.
