Jimmy Carter, Rand Paul and Vladimir Putin all agree, am I in a Twilight Zone episode?

The discussion about Syria has seen some extremely weird "alliances" (for lack of a better word)

Pro intervention in Syria: President Obama, Kerry, McCain, Graham and Rep King out of NY among others

Against intervention in Syria: Jimmy Carter, Rand Paul, Barbara Lee, Grayson among others.

I certainly can't remember the last time politicians of such diverse political views (on both sides) sided with each other on such a major issue.

1. To be fair, they all seem to agree/disagree for different reasons, so it is not as

Twilight Zone as it looks on the surface.
And, as has been said elsewhere, agreeing or disagreeing with someone does not mean one therefore agrees or disagrees with them on everything.

9. Sorry! A bit of a knee-jerk reaction from me, due to seriously being lumped in with Rand Paul. n/t

13. It's extraordinarily unusual for someone to be 100% wrong, bad or evil

so regardless of where one stands politically, it is entirely possible for someone other side to be a generally decent enough person at the personal level, even if you don't agree with them politically.

I am certainly not going to go through life disliking people just because they don't agree with me on everything.

You know, the kind that gave us the saying "politics makes strange bedfellows." The kind where you vote issue by issue for what you believe is right, versus the lockstep, knee-jerk party line votes of recent years.

3. I've recommended joint OWS and teaparty marches.

I don't think a louder message could be sent to the government if the Occupy Wall Street, and the TP'ers would combine for joint marches.

It's so rare that us and "them" agree on something, even if the reasons and rationale is different, i think it would send a huge message.

10. Here's the interesting part:

The main script for our Kabuki Theatre is that it's Democrats representing the 99% while Republicans represent the 1%.

So Republicans fund and create a Tea Party to fight the Democrat's appearance of a majority. But then even the Tea Party sees it's been had and opportunists like Rand Paul comes along co-opts them.

And the 1% live in fear for the day when the Tea Party and the Old School Democrats look at each other and realize they may have more in common than they realize.

12. Besides that I am shocking myself by shaking out my own position to be PALINish:

I started out supporting the strike based on the humanitarian/chemical situation and that I trust OBAMA/KERRY who are NOT Shrub/POWELL/CHEENEE/RUMS, and proceeded to be dismayed by the changes of course and the shifting to the congresscritters who are out there mostly for their media attention whoring and c.y.a., and with the potential "no" vote am ending up with Grifter PALIN's "Let Allah decide." OBAMA can say he tried to do the humanitarian thing and deferred to whoever's Will and the "red lines" crap can go back to where it came from (NETANYAHU), and if then somebody strikes Israel the decision will be to strike up the band on all sides.
