Bill Barring Mention of Contraceptives OK'd

SALT LAKE CITY (CN) - The Utah House approved a bill that would bar discussion of "contraceptive methods or devices" in sex education classes, and allow public schools to end sex education entirely.

House Bill 363 requires schools that do teach sex education to teach "abstinence only." The state House approved HB 363 last week by 45-28 vote.

Sponsored by Rep. Bill Wright, R-Holden, the measure allows school districts the option to drop sex education courses for grades 8 through 12, but if they to teach it, to abstinence-only instruction.

The bill states: "Human sexuality instruction or instructional programs shall teach and stress: the importance of abstinence from all sexual activity before marriage and fidelity after marriage as the only sure methods for preventing certain communicable diseases; and personal skills that encourage individual choice of abstinence and fidelity.

"Human sexuality instruction or instructional programs may not include instruction or the advocacy of the intricacies of intercourse, sexual stimulation, or erotic behavior; homosexuality; contraceptive methods or devices; or sexual activity outside of marriage."

Get married right out of high school? If you are married and faithful, you won't need contraception?

Again, this is all RELIGIOUS oriented.

program of sex education. Undoubtedly it is the most effective form of birth control and prevention of std's, but it's also one of the most difficult to follow. If we expect teenagers to make responsible decisions, they need to be fully informed of the options available to them and the risks involved in being sexually active. Otherwise, it's like teaching them to drive without showing them how to use the brake pedal.

Because I believe in local control of education, in principle I am all for Utahans deciding for themselves how they want to operate their education system.

Of course, I don't agree with much of anything that is in this legislation as reported.

Let the poor folks in Utah suffer the consequences of their own actions ... that is how democracy is supposed to work. It is only that way that they may ever come to a realization that it might be to their benefit to join the 21st century.

Furthermore, if this legislation becomes law, it will be interesting to watch Utah as a laboratory for this kind or retrograde policy. My prediction is that within a very few years, even with the LDS theology on human reproduction and morals, the single teen birthrate will soar, their 'welfare' and Medicaid costs will soar, their STD rate will soar, etc. --- and this law would be repealed.

The LDS church runs Utah... I lived there for 12 years. We loved the people but the government was a sham. The LDS church has complete control of most of the state. SLC being the one area where non-LDS reach a percentage of about 50%.

My wife taught elementary school where she was the token non Mormon teacher in the entire school of 500 students k thru 6. On the H.S. level.. the "church" buys property adjacent to the H.S. and puts a seminary on it. Usually constructed of the same materials as the school to I guess blend in.... Students then are allowed to attend seminary everyday. It's supposedly "non-denominational" lol and in the past students were even given H.S. credit hours for attending however that isn't the case anymore.

fucking.

Many very young people there get married JUST SO THEY CAN FUCK.

It's already a very screwed up mentality. This is just a symptom of the pre-existing dysfunction.
