(16,191 posts)OC (colloquially known as pepper spray) is a chemical agent listed and banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention. It's use on a battlefield constitutes a war crime equal to that of using sarin.
People have long commented about the fact that our police forces routinely use weapons on our citizens that are illegal to use against enemy soldiers in wartime.

(10,007 posts)US Used White Phosphorus in Iraq
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/4440664.stm
Washington is not a signatory to an international treaty restricting the use of the substance against civilians.
The U.S. claim is that it is not a "chemical" weapon but an "incendiary" weapon. White phosphorus is dispersed from an exploding artillery or grenade round as a cloud of chemical dust. It sticks to the skin and reacts with water in the air to produce flame. I can't imagine what happens if you breathe it.
But we can use it with impunity and expect no criticism, because the U.S. is not a signatory to the treaty banning its use. You see, only the United States gets to decide what is and is not a banned weapon.

(650 posts)I have seen the results with my own eyes. I saw people with cauterized wounds that went clear thru their bodies.
Oh, and then there's the matter of depleted uranium in Iraq.
But, hey! It's OK 'cause we're the UNITED MOTHERFUCKING STATES OF MOTHERFUCKING AMERICA!

What purportedly the Syrian government used on it's people is just wrong. I've heard it was the rebels that did it. Per corporate media and other countries it was the Syrian government. The use of such a horrible gas being used against its people without any repercussion would signal others to do the same if desired against any rebellious fraction.
I'm hoping for a solution without an attack. I'm hoping for talks between the nations and Syria. Russia and China could play a positive roll alongwith with the USA.

While it is true Obama has been pushed from both sides (the GOP and the Clinton-Patreus- Panetta cabal), I don't think Obama wants to launch a military attack and maybe feels he can squeeze Assad into acting right. Or at least I hope.
