(24,890 posts)Overall not a bad Repuke to Dem conversion.
I hope there is a good competitive primary. Just don't pick another "trial lawyer" like McBride. What a disappointment in the debates....

(43,191 posts)I came to Florida during Jeb, and I can honestly say Charlie was the only Florida governor I actually liked. Even as a Republican, which explains why he couldnt stay one in the end.
I certainly like him as a Democratic congressman.
On the other hand, he lost in his Senate race and lost running against Scott for Governor, so I worry the response from the public would be an indifferent Been there, done that. Its very hard being a retread in politics.
I still think the inside track belongs to Nikki Fried who is the only statewide elected Dem. Shes not my very favorite but Ill gladly work to replace DeSantis with her.
Senate against Rubio will be Val Demings. Mark my words.

(58,785 posts)of a former Republican. Not just the concept of an open mind, the choice of words themselves.
I once read that a lot of FL pols have switched parties over the years but that the switches were the other way -- Democratic to Republican. And virtually all were conservative Dems anyway, part of the mass migration of southern conservatives who took over the GOP.
Maybe it'll mean folk in Florida are at least a little more opened to a switch than those in other states, though.
