Queen’s 5% pay increase ‘I really do not welcome this with a good heart’

Queen’s 5% pay increase ‘I really do not welcome this with a good heart’ —UK Economist

Close to 38 million pounds will become the Queen of England’s new paycheck after a generous 5 percent increase was announced to be tacked onto her pay for 2014. Yet, while she basks in the glory of more cash, UK residents stay pinned down to poverty levels, in turn debilitating their society. One UK economist spoke out to the Voice of Russia on how her small pay hike is a dangerous turn for the crippling finances of the nation.

Five percent does not seem like a high amount for a pay raise. However, the amount is staggering, given the fact that more children are living in poverty across the UK, than just a few years back. Queen Elizabeth II’s paycheck for 2014 will go from 36.1 to 37.9 million pounds (or from about 55 million to nearly 57 million US dollars).

Stamps of approval on the Queen receiving extra cash for the coming year are few and far between. “This should not have happened at a time when the country’s facing a lot of financial problems with respect to absolute poverty and inflation, then financial macroeconomics imbalances, a lot of things should be taken care of,” Dr. Tapas Mishra, Associate Professor of Economics at the Swansea University School of Business and Economics, said and added, “I really do not welcome this with a good heart especially when other people are suffering so much.

Unwelcoming it is, after hearing that in the Department for Work and Pension’s report in June of this year, admitted that during 2011-2012 over 2 million UK children stayed in homes with a significantly lower than normal income. If housing costs are taken into account, that number increase to more than 3 million children.

She could wear the same outfit more than once, and cut back on her expenses a bit.

After all, on her worst day, she'll still look a thousand times better than Camilla!
