Once upon a time . . .

There was a mental hospital here in Indy called Central State Hospital. At one time, it was considered one of the best of its kind in the country. By the time I moved here in the early '90's, it had deteriorated badly, mostly because of lack of funding as I recall; and there was talk of closing it. But questions about what to do with the patients who were there were never adequately addressed. By the mid-'90's, it closed. Soon I started noticing that there were some very strange characters wandering the downtown streets who had not been there before. It didn't take much imagination to figure out where they came from. Eventually, one by one, they disappeared. Now I know what became of at least one of them: He changed his name to Rick Santorum, and he's running for president.

grounds so lovely with all types of inmates and some children in separate quarters. It closed down, those who could be transferred to other hospitals were taken care of, the rest are walking the streets and acting out because of a lack of meds. Reagan was a horror in his own right, Santorum will be far worse...

Its fair game to attack rich and powerful men like Santorum and Romney, but the untreated mentally ill are neither rich nor powerful. You are committing a serious moral error in equating the former with the latter. Predation on the weakest is in no way equivalent with resistance to the most powerful.
