A day after a Florida jury acquitted George Zimmerman over the death of Trayvon Martin, a Republican House member said Sunday that President Obama had politicized the case.
"The president engaged in this and turned it into a political issue that should have been handled exclusively with law and order," said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, on Fox News Sunday.
While local authorities prosecuted the case in Florida, King also told Fox that "the evidence didn't support prosecution, and the Justice Department engaged in this."
King appeared to reference Obama's comments at a news conference on March 23, 2012, when the president spoke of Martin's family:

(26,877 posts)President Obama did what EVERY President has done - COMMENTED on a national outrage and COMFORTED those who were RIGHTFULLY outraged by the STARK LACK of accountability by Zimmerman and the Sanford police.
(*by "whole fucking country", I mean the sane ones, not Steve).

(31,516 posts)Pres. Obama was asked about Trayvon. That immediately put him in a situation where one side or another would find fault with his answer. If he had refused to comment, there are those who would criticize him for that, also.
It's a classic case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

King is ornery and likes to say bizarre things for the publicity. That would be fine if he were talking to Ann Coulter or Rush or some of those media animals, but spare us, King.
