Europe furious, 'shocked' by report of U.S. spying - CNN

Ungrateful Europeans don't understand that we're spying on them for their own good and refuse to be happy about it.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/30/world/europe/eu-nsa/index.html

(CNN) -- European officials reacted with fury Sunday to a report that the U.S. National Security Agency spied on EU offices.

The European Union warned that if the report is accurate, it will have tremendous repercussions.

"I am deeply worried and shocked about the allegations," European Parliament President Martin Schulz said in a statement. "If the allegations prove to be true, it would be an extremely serious matter which will have a severe impact on EU-US relations. On behalf of the European Parliament, I demand full clarification and require further information speedily from the U.S. authorities with regard to these allegations."

German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger "said if the accusations were true, it was reminiscent of the Cold War," ministry spokesman Anders Mertzlufft said, adding that the minister "has asked for an immediate explanation from the United States."

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius called for a swift explanation from American authorities.

other then lame name calling, it really is sad to suffer through... but fortunately this is DU and the defenders of these totalitarian policies are a pitiful tiny, yet vocal, minority.

They "lose" EVERY poll on here since this news broke, and have been schooled directly, and repeatedly, but refuse to move off of their lame sophist totalitarian positions.

However, they do provide reliable, and frequent, teachable moments.

Thanks for sharing

Everyone does not spy on everyone. It is not the way of the world. There are only a very few countries with the resources to do massive spying.

Every first world country does it and all of the second world too. Don't be naive, every country that has any sort of organized government has intelligence operations.

If you're going to tell me Togo doesn't do it, fine. But they are of no significance in the grand scheme.

Pick nits much?

England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Mexico, you name it...they all have intelligence services and they ALL gather as much information as they possibly can about every country they can (not just their ostensible "enemies&quot , and in every case, it's information that the country in question would NOT have shared voluntarily. And let's not even imagine the kind of spying Israel does on everybody.

Everyone with a brain knows this, but the parties in question still have to act surprised and outraged when it's aired in public.

10. What is" the EU/U.S. experts' dialogue on intelligence" ?????
Sun Jun 30, 2013, 09:11 PM
Jun 2013

The Guardian newspaper reported that one NSA document leaked by Snowden describes 38 embassies and missions as "targets" and details surveillance methods that include planting bugs in communications equipment and collecting transmissions with specialized antennae.

Targets included France, Italy, Greece, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, India and Turkey, according to The Guardian.

U.S. officials did not immediately respond to the Guardian's report. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment Sunday on specific allegations published in Der Spiegel.

"The United States government will respond appropriately to the European Union through our diplomatic channels, and through the EU/U.S. experts' dialogue on intelligence that the U.S. proposed several weeks ago," the office said in a statement. "We will also discuss these issues bilaterally with EU member states. While we are not going to comment publicly on specific alleged intelligence activities, as a matter of policy, we have made clear that the United States gathers foreign intelligence of the type gathered by all nations." We're not spying, we're only collecting data. And it's legal because Obama said it was. It's for their own good...we're protecting their freedom.
