Rep. Stephen Fincher: “If the Poor Want Their Children to Eat… Sell them as Slaves.”
Appearing on Fox News, Tennessee Representative Stephen Fincher addressed the charges of hypocrisy and callousness leveled at him by Democrats, again quoting the Bible to justify his positions. “Leviticus 25-45, ‘the children of the strangers that do live among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land and they shall be your possession.’ And what’s stranger than poor people? Am I right? Right?” He said grinning and raising his hand for a high-five, which was answered quickly by a smiling Eric Bolling.
The controversy started two weeks ago while a debate was taking place in the House Agriculture Committee over $4.1 billion in cuts to the food stamp program, now known as SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Stephen Fincher made his position clear that the government should not be in the business of feeding children or helping the poor, quoting the Bible for added emphasis. “For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat.” (The quote is actually about warning people against waiting for the second-coming, not as a justification to deny food to those in need.) The callousness is evident to anyone; the hypocrisy became obvious when it was found out that Mr. Fincher has taken millions from the government personally. The $3.5 million he has collected for his farm in subsidies, is from programs that he supports and has voted to increase funding for. “Look, I’m a Christian and I’m far better than those atheists on the other side of the aisle who want to use the government to feed the poor,” Stephen Fincher said to the Fox panel. “That’s how Hitler and Stalin started out - feeding the poor. But I’m not heartless at all; it’s all about tough-love. And it’s also a win-win situation. We all know God wants to help the rich and powerful, or they wouldn’t be rich and powerful,” he said to the beaming and nodding hosts on The Five. “That’s why the government should give more money to people like me who know how to spend it. We could buy the poor people and then we would be obligated to feed them… if they work hard enough.” After a thoughtful pause. “I’ll say it again, this is other people’s money that Washington is appropriating and spending. It should go to me.” “I have to say thank you on so many levels Steve,” said Greg Gutfeld. “Not only for figuring out how to feed those douche-bags, and for trying to bring back slavery, but as a comedian too. I have so many hungry children and slavery jokes I’m dying to tell… See, that’s why right-wing humor works, it’s… it’s gettable!” “Tell your big news,” Andrea K. Tantaros said. “We’re all just dancing around it.” “Okay, here’s my plan. I’m going to introduce a bill next week. It will eliminate food stamps and give that money to well-off white Christian males, and legalize the buying and selling of those who can’t feed themselves. It’s called, The American Patriot’s Love of God and Country, bill.” “I’m a Democrat and I love this bill!” Bob Beckel announced. “What could be better than helping the wealthy and the poor at the same time?”

The True Believers know he's speaking straight from the heart with his advocacy of slavery, and they understand that he has to couch it as a "joke" to avoid outrage from everyone to the left of Sarah Palin.
And they understand that "the poor" who are destined for enslavement (or, more correctly. re-enslavement) are those dark-skinned "Others" who escaped from their natural roles in society as an immediate result of the unfortunate outcome of the Civil War. |

8. This might fit well with my "Jethro Schools" proposal. That was intended for right-wingers that
don't want their kids to git learnt no science or history. Unless of course it's science or history invented in Texas. I say Texas because that seems to be the source of text books favored by the right and their Republican party platform had a bizarre anti-critical thinking plank.
I thought that if teabaggers don't want their kids to have a real education, so be it. That could be a source of cheap menial labor. Set up special "Jethro Schools" for them. After maybe six years or so, they could be eligible to go to work. Someone like Rush Limbaugh should be all for that. He could buy himself a harem of peasant houseboys to frolic with. No more traveling to The Dominican Republic for it. |

30. Reminds me of Canterbury
NC has passed a bill for one of the best programs in the country to ensure children are fed. During discussion Ray Canterbury proposed that the poorest of the children work for their meals. The Republican party is no longer even discernible from the party of half century ago. It is filled with misogynists, homohaters, racists and religious fanatics. The tea party, though it seems impossible, is even worse.
People did believe this satire as truth. That's so sad and not necessarily a comment on the reader. Always enjoy your work, 20score. This is right up there with some of your best. |
