I just turned 50. I've been working for a company out of Clearwater, FL for just shy of a year
I earn a living wage, and the company offers FREE health, dental, vision, and life insurance. Most of the people I work with are very nice, and I enjoy the work I do.
Last week I found out the owner is a Scientologist. I've since discovered that roughly 70% of the employees are also Scientologists.
I'm really not a fan. Seriously.Not.A.Fan.
Do I sit the golden cup down, or do I drink?

(5,764 posts)...and only found this out now I'm guessing they don't bring it up in the workplace. In which case, non issue. If you like working there nothing should have changed that right?
On the other hand, if you found this out *because* it's started to get brought into the workplace then different story...

If my labor supports the "church" I have to care.

(65,616 posts)and your family if you have one. Scientology doesn't worry me as much as Walmart or Papa Johns. Then again, I have no idea what their political leanings are. If their religion bothers you that much, then seek employment elsewhere. BUT FIRST, take care of yourself and make sure you have another job first before giving them the 2 week notice.
Take care of yourself FIRST and FOREMOST.

(2,959 posts)has a price. Religion aint free and scientology is about as far from a religion you can get and retain that tax free status.
you might try making Operation Clambake your home page at work and see if any one notices. I especaily recommend this if they actually do start trying to recruit you.

For those that care, the OCA is a bogus personality test used by the church

I'll bet your company is a member of WISE, sort of a $cientology Chamber of Commerce.

Unless they make it an issue and your workplace is good, I would keep the job.

Snark aside, if they aren't dragging religion into the everyday workplace experience, keep your job.

(135,425 posts)I don't care for those people--I think they are weird, controlling and nutso, but if they aren't bothering you, keep your job and look for something better on the side. When you find it, quit, politely and without telling them they suck, and move on.

When you go to your next job interview and the interviewer asks "Why did you quit your last job?", what do you say? Personally, if I were the interviewer and the applicant said "I quit because I can't stand their religion", you'd immediately be a Tier 2 applicant. That's just me though...
