if it weren't for racism and women hating. It's how they appeal to bigots by stirring up their feelings of hatred of 'those people' taking their jobs or going to markets and buying food with food stamps, with their money. I mean listen to all those speeches at the conventions and places where Republicans congregate and there is that undercurrent of racism and women hating running through it.

society. They did it by eliminating all the multi-family homes and replacing them with upscale single-family homes. They knew that it would be difficult for minorities to move into a place where the lowest value for a home was a quarter million. Sure enough, the city operates with rules from another century. It is 90% white and 10% minorities. And there is very much an undercurrent of a shadow government that runs between the City and community leaders that reaches into our homeowner Associations. The mandatory documents of our Associations are so breached that it would be impossible for the Associations to withstand a challenge in court--assuming the case would draw a federal judge with no connection to the community.

Yeah, segregation is alive and well in this century.

never EVER leave the West Coast. The Espoused One was considering a move to Mississippi about 8 years ago and, although I was (pretending) going along with it because I didn't want to be the one he blamed if the move couldn't happen, I was chanting to every entity I knew and some I only suspected to PLEASE don't make me move to Mississippi. Me. The penultimate California 60's hippie chick in Mississippi. Goddess help me. (Goddess help Mississippi.) Well, some diety(ies) must have heard me because I'm still in California.

but no way, no how, that Cleveland is 90 percent white. It is highly segregated with a highly white, hispanic, and arabic west side and a black east side. But Cleveland is majority black at this point.

Surely you jest. This is Cleveland, in the midwest, not "Nobodyblackbettacomehere, Mississippi! I grew up in Ohio, and had never had contact with racists until I moved to Texas! Maybe it's because we lived in a neighborhood where we (kids) were loved, educated, and sheltered from that type of abuse by the adults around us. But still, my Texas born grandson came home and asked me why another child at the daycare called him a n___r when he was 3! I was so discombobulated when this guy (who I do agree is a hero), came up with the "little pretty white girl ran to a Black guy" statement. I thought WTF?! White girls, pretty (and NOT), run to Black guys all the time from what I see.

People are still racist, otherwise there would not be a single Republican in office back there. That is the only reason any Republican get into office across this country because their voters are race baited and it works.

My father got kicked out of parks in the south trying to eat his lunch. He couldn't swim in a hotel pool with the rest of his high school class on a field trip.

My mother had to use the back door of the obstetrician's office on a Georgia military base even while her husband served this country.

And I suspect this man brings some of his own personal experiences into his statement. How dare he?

It's sad that in this day, on a Democratic board, that this needs to be explained. It's not just the earlier generations who recognize different treatment -- it's just less frequent these days now that the LAWS are stronger.

until just past the age of forty, before moving to another state several years ago, and I can assure you that blatant racism is very much alive and well in that area. Hell, in the whole state. Although it's admittedly a lot worse in the much more whitebread central and southern parts of Ohio. He didn't "inject race" into it at all, he's merely stating a sad fact, one he has to live with every day.

Hodge's restaurant in Cleveland posted a message on Facebook saying, "we're extremely proud of our employee Charles Ramsey for not turning his back on the young women. He's a true Cleveland hero. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with the women, their families and their friends."

Restaurant owner Chris Hodgson told CNN that Ramsey goes above and beyond in his duties.

Imagine if a white person said it!

40 years ago I married a 'black' man. I was little, very pretty and white. And nothing was wrong. His statement was not a fact 40 years ago and is still is NOT.

I must add that I have since been married to a white man for almost 30 years and I have found that the way we are treated is no different than with my first husband. I have a bi-racial son from my first marriage and a white son with my husband. My interracial marriage was on the east coast and white on white was west coast.

Yes, I have been mixing it up coast to coast for 40 years.
