The original question is they walked up to that car and appeared they shot the officer in the head unprovoked, that it was an assassination. But why? How did that fit into their plan? The operating theory now in the investigation is they were short one gun. The older brother had a gun. They wanted to get a gun for the younger brother and the fastest and most efficient way they could think of doing it was a surprise attack on a cop, to take his weapon and go. Officer Collier had a locking holster, its like a three-way lock. If you dont know how to remove the gun, youre not going to get it out. There was apparently an attempt to yank it and they couldnt get it and left.

I've seen better timelines, but I can't find them now
We now know they didn't rob the store

Approximately 10:30 p.m.: An MIT university police officer is found shot in his vehicle. Sean Collier, 26, is later pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Reports of an armed carjacking in Cambridge. Police say the suspects commandeered a Mercedes SUV, and later released the owner unharmed at a gas station. Police searching for the SUV follow it to Watertown.
Approximately 1 a.m. Friday: Watertown residents report hearing gunfire and the sounds of explosion. Police say the suspects reportedly throw explosives and exchange gunfire with authorities in pursuit. The "black hat" suspect is wounded, and a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officer is shot. The "white hat" suspect flees.

(36,437 posts)They didn't actually get Collier's gun, so where did the other guns come from? They obviously HAD other guns: the Watertown police chief is on record stating that the brothers fired 200-300 rounds at his men: you don't do that with ONE handgun. You do it in part with the M4/AR-15 rifle found with the younger Tsarnaev. Where'd that gun come from?
The "theory" doesn't make much sense at all. People have been floating the idea that the M-4/AR-15 that the younger Tsarnaev was found with came from Collier. Clearly not true. They got ZERO guns from Collier.
This sounds like a reporter talking out of his ass.
