When I was a kid the hippies hated government but now its the Teabaggers that do.

I was an infant when the Kennedy's were assassinated and Civil Rights were enacted. It was the liberals fighting for civil rights and fighting AGAINST the Vietnam War, censorship, and oppressive government and I LOVED them for that.

Now the anti-government people are Tea Party/conservative for the most part (OWS is mixed but mostly wants government).

How did government become the enemy to many Americans? Although taxes are LOWER than ever?

smiled and said "govenment canot fix the problem, Govenment is the problem" for the last 30 years, people have been electing people to govenment, who don't believe in government.. this has resulted in not only the shredding of the safety net, but all kinds of schemes to privatize public resouces, goods, and services..

how they did it is simple they took over inch by inch, first the news became entertainment, they destroyed the regulatory ability of the government, to assure profitability, and finally made sure that politicians could be purchased with odious court decisions..

throw in a theology based on hate.. bingo.. no government.. the dont trust theme has become a self fulfilling prophecy..

and those three issues came into existence ONLY in the 70s.

They maintained their hate of government and lost their concern for others in their pursuit of wealth and self interest. When they wanted to fully disown their previous behavior, they became fundies.
Then, that's what they taught their kids who grew up in the 80s.
And, there you have your tea baggers.

The Tea Party was astro-turfed. It started as a non-partisan anti Wall St./banana republic movement. Period. Most of the original supporters have said :middlefinger:

The current pile of crap that label themselves "Tea Party" now aka 'tea baggers' suck the Hannity dick..thus the term h-ick was born.

Teabaggers don't understand what they hate. They mostly fear change, and they're too stupid to realize that the world and the country HAS changed. They are just railing against a black man as President.

At the core, they're scared, stupid, selfish, moronic, uneducated little bigots who have been brainwashed by FUX news lies.

hate government when it might benefit non-billionaires.
Observe: Wars everywhere, trillion dollar/yr military,
torture, warrantless wiretaps, GOOD, expanding health care
coverage BAD. Apart from the few consistent libertarian types,
The carping about the evils of "big government"
is one of the most disingenuous, hypocritical talking points

I never thought that the Hippies hated the government, but rather wanted the government to live up to the "Ideals" that we promoted and indicated to the rest of the world - and that those "Ideals" expressed the actual values and beliefs of our nation.

There was the contradiction of life in America but also in our foreign policy via the proxy wars.

What the Hippies hated, in my opinion, was the H Y P O C R I S Y.

My thoughts...

I was a bit young, but I was on the periphery of the hippie movement and considered going to Woodstock, but glad I didn't go.

They were generally in favor of food stamps, welfare, other ways to help the needy, Social Security, Medicare, etc.

What do have against being on the dole?

Got it? I knew that you could, given the chance to be educated. That's okay. I accept your apology.
