Hiking the Argentine Trail..

Last night, former Governor Mark Sanford won his Party's nomination to run for Congress in his old District. His former mistress, now his fiancee, stood by his side. The voters of South Carolina seem to have forgiven his trespasses.

But what makes him different from Anthony Wiener or David Vitter or numerous other political figures that have "hiked the trail", so to speak? Is it the state they are from where people judge differently? Is it that Christian supporters are quicker to forgive than average voters? Why are Vitter and Sanford still acceptable but Anthony Wiener is not?

But she's cute so I guess that means a lot for the crowd that tried to elect Mitt.

Vitter and Sanford committed the boring sin of adultry. Nothing to see here, move along.

Wiener committed the exciting sin of using some new-fangled technology to show off his, well...wiener. The story was just too juicy to pass up. If his name had been Smith he might have stood a 50/50 chance of survival but Weiner...nope.

But here's the thing - we don't know that his story is "done". 3-4 years ago when Sanford went hiking, he ended up out on the street and he was done. Until now.

Wiener could well be back after he does his penance and sexting becomes old news.
