Bob Ney rips Boehner in memoir. Says he's 'lazy' and 'more interested in the high life.'
From the Columbus Dispatch:
Former Rep. Bob Ney of Heath, who served 11 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges, said John Boehner, a fellow Ohio Republican, offered him a job in 2006 if he agreed not to run for re-election.
In a memoir to be released this week, Ney writes that in a telephone call in August 2006, Boehner, the Houses majority leader at the time, told him that if he did not seek re-election, Boehner would personally guarantee you a job comparable to what you are making, and raise legal defense money for you that should bury all this Justice Department for you.
But he aims mostly at Boehner. Describing him as a bit lazy, Ney writes that Boehner was considered a man who was all about winning and money.
He was a chain-smoking, relentless wine drinker who was more interested in the high life, Ney writes. He said that two or three nights a week for years, Boehner would sit with tobacco lobbyists. If someone had held a gun to Boehners head and told him to produce receipts proving that he paid for all those years of drinking ... he would have wound up in a body bag.
