(CNN) -- An attorney for a former Penn State football coach accused of sexually abusing young boys on Thursday claimed news media "somewhat exaggerated" and took "out of context" his comments about adults who "teach" children to shower.
Karl Rominger recently joined the defense team of Jerry Sandusky, who prosecutors say sexually abused 10 young boys over a 14-year period. The 67-year-old former defensive coordinator has pleaded not guilty to more than 50 related charges.
Sandusky has admitted showering and having "horsed around" with boys, though he's denied any sexual activity with his accusers.
On Tuesday, Rominger brought up the idea of an adult showering with young children during an interview with CNN affiliate WHTM.
"Teaching a person to shower at the age of 12 or 14 would sound strange to some people, but actually people who work with troubled youth would tell you that there are a lot of juvenile delinquents or people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills, like how to put soap on your body," the lawyer said.

(6,452 posts)Even if it WAS innocuous (which I don't in any way, shape, or form think it was), what kind of person thinks it's okay to 1) shower with young boys; 2) rub soap on them while in the shower; and 3) "horse around" while in the shower?

(9,933 posts)Think I was 8 and my brother was seven. The doctor asked my mom if she was still washing him. She said: "No he takes his own baths." Doc: "Did you tell him he needs to use soap?" My mother turned red and slunk down in her chair. Funniest thing ever!
But yeah, this is pretty lame defense!

(27,461 posts)he didn't show us, but he told us what to do. He told us to start at the top so the suds flow down and they don't get wasted. We all laughed, but it must have made an impression on me since I still remember it.
That same teacher brought us bear meat which he had shot himself. He was an Ernest Hemingway type.
What a character! It's funny what sticks with us.

(34,138 posts)If they keep the story in the news continuously until the trial, keep putting out stuff that influences potential jurors against Sandusky, they can claim the jury pool is tainted. Then they can fight a change of venue because this is a national story. Or at the very least go for the least informed, dumbest batch of jurors in existence.
It worked for Casey Anthony, why not for Sandusky?
