White House warns of dangers posed by WikiLeaks, LulzSec, other 'hacktivists'

The White House warned today of the threat posed by WikiLeaks, LulzSec, and other "hacktivist" groups that have the ability to target U.S. companies and expropriate confidential data.

A new administration-wide strategy (PDF) disclosed at a high-profile event in Washington that included Attorney General Eric Holder says the theft of trade secrets is on the rise and predicts such theft will undermine U.S. national security unless halted.

It's a "steadily increasing threat to America's economy and national security interests," Holder said at the event, which also featured officials from the State Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

"Disgruntled insiders [may leak] information about corporate trade secrets or critical U.S. technology to 'hacktivist' groups like WikiLeaks," the White House warns. Such groups could "develop customized malware or remote-access exploits to steal sensitive U.S. economic or technology information."

2. Anarchy and chaos is never a good thing. Neither is vigilantism or supposed vengence.

and the interesting thing is

it will lead to the very control type of things SUPPOSEDLY that are the exact opposite of what these people want.

I myself wonder though if Karl Rove isn't behind some/all of these leakers/hackers/dispensers of INFOMATION.
After all, same as said the other day in a post about facebook, people flock to facebook and some (especially those wary of the government seem to love this stuff).

This indeed requires a grownup answer. Not left to the kiddies.

and falls under the realm of
Be careful what one wishes.

(same as the ones in the altmedia promote transparency, except if the camera is on them.
They want the cameras pointed at whomever they want, but heaven help if the camera is pointed at them.)

Chaos sucks. The old burn it down mob witchhunts, with not a clue what will appear the day after.

All leading back to Karl Rove's bosses.
Because well, it always does to his bosses.

Yep...there is a sense of urgency to control the internet, have ya noticed?
and to control information.
Tv is pretty well useless for real news, radio not much better.

But teh inter tubes now....too much unpredictable uncontrollable stuff being unleashed, gotta smack 'em down and wrap 'em up tight.

Internet will suffer the fate of tv, if they have their way.
Tv in the mid-50's to 1970 or so, was very inventive, you could find edgy shows and news that showed a lot of uncensored info.
compared to today, but slowly the Keith Olbermans of that era were removed.
Actually, when the network fired Phil Donahue it was the beginning of the end, and PBS was brought to heel, then C-span.

Anyone born after 1970 has no idea of what was lost, has no idea of who Daniel Ellsberg was, or what Watergate meant.

and it of course is Anonymous' natural environment. Good point. They're attempting to close the door upon dissent. This is exactly what I was getting at earlier, the section upon stifling dissent:
