So it looks to me,that by acknowledging the failure of leadership, then referring to himself AS a leader,he's inadvertently admitted the he,himself,is a failure....

Good job......I think that's probably the first truth he's uttered in ages...

They've used it since 2009 for one reason: cutting social benefits.

Mitch McConnell was the first I heard use it when he wanted to cut Social Security, but knew it would be political suicide to take the initiative himself. He complained that the the president doesn't have the leadership to get spending cuts done, even though it was a republican idea.

Republicans want Obama to take action on the social cuts that give them GOP wet dreams. That way, when Americans find themselves doing without, they can thrust a thumb toward the White House and blame the Democrats.

It's not a new tactic, Republicans did this to Clinton on welfare reform. If you ask anyone who pushed through the welfare cuts of the '90s, they'll tell you Clinton did it, not Gingrich. Suddenly, Bill Clinton had "great leadership".

to take hold, is that they never talk about any spending cuts that aren't directly related to people. Even though every cut indirectly affects someone, you would think they would be wiser in their framing the issue.

If I was a Republican strategist, I would advise them to say something like "We have to cut the bloated federal budget. But, we want to cut it in a way that affects the fewest people. We will begin by looking at all the spending on other things first." (Perhaps the Dems should say this first).

I happen to think the 47% comment was a huge key to the Obama win. It blatantly showed that Romney didn't give a shit about people. And, many people felt that and felt that Obama does care about people. It's an intangible that's worth it's weight in political gold and they are too dumb to figure it out.

BTW - congrats on you winning pic. It was embarrassing that mine was last. Guess I need to try harder. :&gt

They never breathe a word about pentagon cuts, cuts to corporate subsidies, or all the money we waste on drug enforcement. Instead they try to sell the idea that eliminating food stamps, rent subsidies, and school lunches will somehow stimulate the working class to raise themselves up to six figure incomes. Perhaps the poor can just run for congress and live in their DC office like Paul Ryan (Talk about a federal rent subsidy!).

Paul Krugman recently compared the federal food stamp program to the soup kitchens of the great depression. I wonder, if this current crop of republicans were back in that era, if they'd criticize the free soup as a waste of good broth on people who aren't trying. Sure they would, and they'd propose that a shoe shine kit would be a great business investment for the poor who rely on the government to retain their dignity during tough times.

As for the photo contest, don't sell yourself short. Your pic was great, and could have easily rated much higher on any another day. I myself have never done as well as I did this contest, and I doubt history repeats itself soon, but I enjoy entering something I created.

I had no intention to use that pic from last August. Since I mostly concern myself in mechanical stuff, I spent some time at my friend's British car recycle shop taking pix of abandoned MGs and Triumphs under a blanket of fresh fallen snow. I didn't like the bland results, and upon returning to the forum I saw a few junk cars already entered. I quickly dug up that image from a tractor show last summer at the Ashtabula County fairgrounds instead.

It turns out I underestimated the love affair between DU and their flowers and animals. I've yet to determine the theme for February, but I can assure you it will directly involve neither. If you can sneakily slip in one or the other however, you'd be well advised to do so. (LOL)

Good luck, and I look forward to viewing your entry.

Had I entered this image as originally intended, you would have been at least second from last:
