In the GOP playbook disasters only count if they embarrass democrats. Examples: 9-11-2001 not a disaster because of Cheney and Shrub culpability,Katrina-Shrub again, Newton-nope involves guns and NRA, Marine Barracks 1983-nope because it involved Reagan, et al. Same old tune by Paul.

And we need to focus on keeping our elementary schools safe...before worrying about keeping violent middle eastern embassys safe. Those who work there, do so my choice...they know it's dangerous and know there's a risk to their safety....unlike kindergarten kids!

it's political grandstanding by Paul. He completely ignored/dissed/forgot about the Newtown tragedy before he opened his mouth!

the marine base in Beirut and look what a Republican icon he remains after 241 Americans were killed there. It's sad that 4 people died but Republicans are clearly trying to take political advantage of Benghazi.

Proclaiming this as worse than a Newtown or an Aurora is clearly indicative of a representative who doesn't have the safety and sufferings of the American people on his mind but is in Washington to play politics. As bad as 4 deaths are, you cannot say Benghazi was the worse tragedy since 911 and not be playing politics. You just can't.

so he is fair game in my book, and deservedly so. Even to insinuate that this is worse than Katrina, worse than Aurora, worse than Sandy or worse than Newtown is totally offensive. Plus he used 911, which was an attack on mostly private American citizens, as the basis to compare tragedies. The oath of office specifies protecting America from its enemies, both foreign and domestic. I take that to mean all tragedies are equal from the perspective that Americans are harmed. Mr. Paul's statements completely belittles the suffering of countless Americans as not important enough to be included in any accounting of them.

He should be asked to resign.

every now and then I hear of helicopter accidents in Afghanistan. That would most probably involve multiple casualties and seems to be a common occurrence, as far as military casualties go.

the Republicans are reducing the seriousness of their office by using the process to create cheap political theater. Their clown show was funny when they were trying to conduct a primary. It's pathetic when they bring their clown show into the official business of the USG and reduces the seriousness of what should be a bi-partisan attempt to understand what went wrong. But they already know what went wrong and how their votes to defund embassy security may have directly contributed to the Benghazi disaster. But this is not a quest for knowledge or insight to learn from this event...just cheap political theater orchestrated by the Party of Cheap Political Theater.

The bodies are still warm, the clean up still awaiting on some of these other tragedies and Paul cites Benghazi as the worst.
