Normally politicians greet one another with pleasantries, even if they dont particularly like each other. Not so today with President Barack Obama and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who met Air Force One when it touched down outside of Phoenix.
It was clear from the moment they greeted one another on the tarmac that this wouldnt me your typical grip and grin. At one point, she was pointing her finger at him, and at another, they were talking at the same time, seemingly over each other. Then he appeared to walk away from her while she was still talking.
It started when she handed him a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her. The president replied that hed be glad to meet with her again but did note that after their last meeting, a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book, a senior administration official said.
He was referring to her book, Scorpions for Breakfast, which is harshly critical of the president. The pair has clashed sharply on immigration policy, with the Obama administration suing Arizona to block its enforcement measure. In the book, she described an Oval Office meeting, and claimed he was lecturing and patronizing, something the White House says is not true.

(16,232 posts)of course she thinks he lecturing and patronizing. She also can't articulate any good reason for her actions. (bad reasons, yes. good, no.)
And just maybe she thinks somebody might view her as being "powerful" and a force to be reckoned with . . . hmmmm - wonder why she's trying so hard?

(4,465 posts)I think President Obama's Presidency will be framed by history in the same context as forced integration was back in the day. They'll talk about the kids that were afraid for their lives and the bullies in their faces and the courage and dignity with which they handled it/President Obama handled it.
Not to mention the death threats this President has received. No other President in history has been under this much threat.

Hazel's face is hideously distorted with hatred and rage, and she later was embarrassed and ashamed about the picture and reached out to apologize to Elizabeth.
A book, Elizabeth and Hazel: Two Women of Little Rock tells their story.
Here are some pictures with different angles on the iconic picture that the girl grew to be so ashamed of:

(66,221 posts)It's ok to be dressed appropriately for the weather and the culture of the state, but that woman's appearance is not ok. She looks like hell. I'm no fashion plate but I find her slovenly appearance to be offensive. She couldn't be bothered to put on a dress or a suit to meet the president?
The hell with her.

(17,162 posts)given that her son's condition is quite serious and has resulted in
his hospitalization for twenty years.
Here is the thread which contains a video of her being interviewed about the incident.
After watching it, I ventured the question about the possibility of her
being mentally ill and asked if governors were vetted for such possible conditions.
I seriously think she is.
Given the back story with her son, it is more than possible.

I'm sad to see arizona go down the looney rabbit hole, especially with such a shameful governor. Even goldwater must be rolling over in his grave.
