We consent to be free and we consent not to be

prey. That's the way I see the need for gun safety. You can not be free when you are considered prey by part of the nation who outright states that in order to own any weapon they desire they will be willing to kill you in the name of freedom. That is not freedom and you do not have the right to assault others who ask you to be a responsible citizen.

I can't quite say it that way, but we are working in the same direction. Basics need agreement. freshwest Jan 2013 #1

Law-abiding, peaceful people are just that, law-abiding and peaceful -- even though some 80 million-plus also own guns. Some say they will defend themselves if their rights are taken away. That's not a threat anymore than it is a threat to imprison people who vicitmize others.

Fear-mongering never helps.
