Take a bow occupy...

From the State of the Union tonight...

"I am asking my Attorney General to create a special unit of federal prosecutors and leading state attorneys general to expand our investigations into the abusive lending and packaging of risky mortgages that led to the housing crisis. This new unit will hold accountable those who broke the law, speed assistance to homeowners, and help turn the page on an era of recklessness that hurt so many Americans."

Yes, to all those who ask, what do they want? That is one of the demands.

Another from the SOTU... the idea that college tuition should stop going up the way it is, and to make it affordable.

Take a bow Occupy...

Talk is cheap...

So the next obvious step... just to adress Wall Street, is to see the many units actually move on the myriad of possible cases.

Take my word on this, it will take a little while for them to realize this... that is what happens when you are in the middle of a revolution.

But that is why I noted this to my local Occupy.

and I love its dormant power.. such that wherever greed and cheat and deceit rear their hideous heads, Occupy will shine a light and name the beasts.

Occupy has set the theme of politics for this year, and probably has won the election for Obama.

This was on the internet feed which, imo, likely had his target audience.

As I said awhile ago (got a little heat for it if I recall correctly), Obama would piggyback on OWS.

has ever mentioned these things, or deemed them as being important.

Only Occupy realized that abusive lending practices and risky mortgages led to the housing crisis, and those who contributed to that crisis should be investigated. Only Occupy noted that college tuition should be affordable.

Amazingly, no one else ever thought of these things until the Occupy movement got started.

we protested the wrongs. But it was Occupy's refusal to leave and the police and government response to Occupy that made Occupy important.
So yes, Occupy does get credit for not shutting up and sitting back down.

The thing is - before Occupy, it could be argued that these were fringe issues, mattering only to a small demographic. Not any more!
It's a visual age, and Occupy defines a new language.

since 05. That's when I woke up. What makes you think no one knew of this shit before? We had 250 thousand people in DC in 05 but not a word in the press. Maybe if we had stayed and fought, we could have made the news. But yes, these issues are not new, they have just become desperate and we needed the youths involvement and stubborness, as well as their fresh new ideas, But yes we were there.

Next time you ask what do they want, I will point you to the SOTU.

I'm not getting into this discussion. Should never have posted in this thread.

If people want to believe that these issues were "acknowledged" due to Occupy, as though they were never raised, discussed, or thought about before Occupy even existed, they're going to believe just that.

And for the record, I didn't ask you what they wanted. I asked you repeatedly how they plan to go about accomplishing their goals - a question which you never answered.

First you told me to wait until your 'essay' was done, and I could read it there.

When I asked for just the broad strokes - how do they plan to accomplish their goals? - you said, as you've just done again, "Well, I already explained that."

And what I said then, I will say again now: you obviously don't know the answer.

and I will list it AGAIN.

1.- Running for office, TWO locals are right now. In fact, and I have told you this. one of challenging Issa, alas I cannot, PER TOS. give you a link. He is NOT running as a Dem... don't worry, the party gave up that district a while ago.

A second is running for state house and yes, CHALLENGING a dem... that is life.

2.- Voter Petitions

3.- OUTREACh.

4.- EDUCATION.

Now I am this tired of repeating myself.

Have a good day... and see my sig if you have any damn interest... if not, well not skin off me. Some people will NEVER get Occupy, like they never got the Civil Rights Movement, or the Suffragettes, or other social movements. It strikes me, nothing personal, that you happen to be one of them. That is fine, but please do not feign the same level of ignorance that my local NBC station (two blocks away) feigns. It is not like none of us have tried to explain this to you, and a few others. At this point you either get it, or you don't. And thankfully DC is starting to. They are the ones who truly matter in this equation at the federal level... now if MY MAYOR got it... that will be harder to pull off than either you, or DC. He is termed out, and a few other details.

It's not as if the administration has been standing still. Just because you don't see investigations on the outside doesn't mean they aren't ongoing. There were just charges filed against a couple of mortgage providers, I believe, just a month or so ago . . .

SEC Brings The Hammer Down And Charges Six Ex-Fannie, Freddie CEOs With Fraud (Where's The Love?)

Friday, Dec 16, 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Securities and Exchange Commission has brought civil fraud charges against six former top executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, saying they misled the government and taxpayers about risky subprime mortgages the mortgage giants held during the housing bust.

Those charged include the agencies’ two former CEOs, Fannie’s Daniel Mudd and Freddie’s Richard Syron. They are the highest-profile individuals to be charged in connection with the 2008 financial crisis.

Mudd and Syron led the mortgage giants when the housing bubble burst in late 2006 and 2007. The four other top executives also worked for the companies during that time.

According to the lawsuit, Fannie told investors in 2007 that it had roughly $4.8 billion worth of subprime loans on its books. The SEC says that Fannie actually had about $43 billion worth of products targeted to borrowers with weak credit.

Freddie said about 11 percent of its single-family loans were subprime in 2007. The SEC says it was closer to about 18 percent . . .
