(3,813 posts)I support the vigorous exercise of all the rights enumerated in all ten amendments. Does this make me a good liberal (after all, I am pro-choice, pro-speech, pro-privacy, pro-trial-by-jury, etc.) or does tnis make me an eeee-vul gun nut (because I also support the Second Amendment)?
It's not that complicated: I simply believe that our Constitution and nation both are strengthened when we choose to interpret each right as broadly & vigorously (i.e.-'liberally') as possible. Why would any self-respecting liberal have a problem with this?

(72,631 posts)And yeah... it is totally sad.
My old man fought for the Marines in the South Pacific in WWII, and again in Korea.
THIS... is NOT what he was fighting for. Quite the opposite.

(72,631 posts)I just took the text, bolded the numbers, and MY feelings of whether those things were true anymore.
Maybe I was being too obtuse ?
I was hoping others would play along.
And I DID look for such a test on the web, but ALL of them were test on one's knowledge of the Bill of Rights, and NONE of them on whether they (the Rights) were still relevant.

(408 posts)we're passing down a worse world to our children than was passed down to us. Drones, illegal search, illegal spying, the right to peacefully petition our government, its gone and you can see by the response you've gotten how many people really care. What's happened to the democratic party? Is it the food, the sports, the trash TV, the pharmaceuticals, are we just lazy, or is the constitution no longer important to our party? I'm beginning to wonder what it is we stand as a party for now days.
Shouldn't this be first and most important to all of us as Democrats? Not only as a party but as Americans.

(11,464 posts)Arizona has more than proven we need to abolish states rights. Insanity in that state, clearly against everything America was suppose to mean.
there are no states anymore
borders once thought important no longer are, in 2013, borders of states are meaningless
people now move every few years and places like Florida are just NYsouth
we should be we
one nation,indivisible
with no borders
and no guns
as John Lennon the prophet sang "and the world can live as one"
and 100% amnesty, 100% instant citizenship
and 100% healthcare like France has.
Pay for it, perhaps more now, but when its needed, no bills.
humane, like the French are.
and tear down all walls and borders
and lets get a new court and just get rid of the 2nd altogether. Reclassify it as terror.
And as the constitution states, the president has war powers act, and congress has authorized anything to fight the war against terror is legal.
Thank God that is true. Thank God.
and the declaration and the founding fathers were a fraud anyhow
Being that one Tommy Jefferson wrote "all men are created equal"
ah, well, no, Tommy my friend, you forgot about women. And what about the slaves you owned? And the female ones you abused, ah, Tommy, sorry, but you were a despicable human being that were you alive today, and lived the way you lived then today, you would be in jail for your entire life. What a hypocrite you were.
Must have been laughing at the absurdity of your life.Pulling a fast one.
All are created equal??? Hardly in your eyes. But it was a good practical joke you pulled,
Tommy.
If we want to go back to the original intent of America, we need to give all of it back to the Native Americans, who we slaughtered when conquering it. Funny how some only think in terms of later events(like the 1770s.)
Life in America started much, much earlier.
but people tend to forget their history.

(55,981 posts)Unless we do something drastic it will get worse after the 2014 elections. We defeated Citizens United due to Pres Obama's popularity. He will not be on the ticket in 2014. And I doubt we have a clue who will run in 2016.
