Right wingers urged not to accept new dollar coins

One of my low-information Facebook friends just shared this:

REFUSE NEW COINS
This simple action will make a strong statement.
Please help do this.. Refuse to accept these when they are
handed to you.
I received one from the Post Office as change and I asked for a
... dollar bill instead.
The lady just smiled and said 'way to go' , so she had read
this e -mail.
Please help out..our world is in enough trouble
without this too!!!!!
U.S. Government to Release
New Dollar Coins
You guessed it
'IN GOD WE TRUST'IS GONE from the front and back!!!

If ever there was a reason to boycott something,
THIS IS IT!!!!

DO NOT ACCEPT THE NEW DOLLAR COINS
AS CHANGE

Together we can force them out of circulation..

Please send
to all on
your mailing
list!

Since December 27th, over 205,000 morons have shared this.
If fact 'In God We Trust' is on the coin. It's milled along the edge of the coin, along with 'E Pluribus Unum' (The motto all those "Strict Constitutionalists" can never seem to remember) and the year.

I really wish we'd go with the Canadian standard (same for New Zealand and maybe others) of dumping the dollar bill, and issuing one- and two-dollar coins in its place. Canada still has the penny, but NZ dropped that and the nickel, though I don't think they have $2 coins like Canada.

Another good fact to remember: coins last 30 years or more. Paper bills last, at most, 18 months.

Mon Jan 7, 2013, 05:09 PM
Jan 2013

it's worth a nice little sum as a collectors coin. I think this was an error from the first of the President issued coins 5 or 6 years ago.

They moved IGWT to the edge to make room for the front and rear images, some of the first ones it was omitted by mistake.

You'd have to be a dumbass to turn down a 50 dollar coin.

and was legally required to appear on all silver coins above 10 cents face value, and all gold coins above $3 face value, in 1866. It was temporarily removed from two denominations of gold coins by Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 and early 1908, but public outcry compelled Congress to override Roosevelt's directive. Curiously, no one seems to have raised a fuss when the motto was not included on the Buffalo/Indian Head nickel that was introduced in 1913 after it had been displayed on its predecessor, the Liberty Head/V nickel.

Halfway through your post I was already thinking about a reverse boycott -- about never spending dollar bills, only coins, and trying to get the coins rather than bills as change. It would be nice to be able to buy a slice of pizza without being forced to hand out advertising for other people's beliefs that I don't share.

What a letdown to find that the coins actually do have the advertising slogan on them.

Once the dollar coin is introduced.. the merchants will "round down" the costs of goods sold. (ROFL)

Has ANYONE ever seen a restaurant, hotel, Bar or grocery store round "DOWN" anything?

If your bill is $24.60.. it will be rounded UP to $25.00 to accomodate the new coin structure.

How can anyone take someone so badly informed at all seriously? Even if pennies disappear one day (and there is no official proposal to get rid of them), that would mean prices are round to 5 cents, not a dollar.

"If your bill is $24.60.. it will be rounded UP to $25.00 to accomodate the new coin structure." - a truly astounding display of stupidity. Is that Glenn Beck, perhaps? Having coins worth $1 doesn't magically destroy all the other coins.

I think we should spread a rumor that the government has planted microchips in them. They are stupid enough they would believe it to.
