Can the post-Sandy Eastern Seaboard handle this storm moving in

To think that we were contemplating heading to DC for the inauguration - I hate winter way too much and it hates me.

1. The snowfall totals are rather low.

I'm only expecting about 4-6 inches. Hell, the storms in 2011 dropped up to 21 inches.

3. I think those homes are the ones deemed to be unacceptable to live in.

I know the power company pulled meters from a few on the local shore that were unlivable. I think the others have been restored by now.

6. We just started getting ice oellets within the past hour

I live about 15 miles NW of DC. We're not supposed to get more than a couple of inches before it ends this afternoon. Knock on wood.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the weather forecast for Jan 21 - 27 is "rainy periods, mild" in our area.

Last year we didn't have much of a winter at all in the DC area.

7. Wasn't really a winter up here either last year.

My only major snow was the October snow storm. Another of several quality experiences in the dark. Who would have thought that exactly one year later (To the Day!) I get hit by a hurricane that , you guessed it, knocked out the power.
