Remember when the White House said Social Security was off the table in the deficit talks because it has a $2.7 trillion surplus and hasnt contributed to deficits? Remember when President Obama pledged not to cut benefits for retirees, widows and orphans? The White House has now agreed to adopt a stingier formula for cost-of-living increases which would cut benefits. In a Senate floor speech, Bernie said the White House had offered repeated assurances that would not happen and that Social Security should be off the table in terms of deficit reduction. I heard that many, many times. So I wonder how Social Security suddenly has gotten back on the table, including a chained CPI with devastating cuts to seniors and disabled vets, Sanders said. Mr. President, I am disappointed.

(1,474 posts)I read the OP, watched the video, and recommended the OP without noticing who posted it.
Then I read your comment, and thought (cough) no way!
So I scrolled to the top of the thread to see who the original poster was, and sure enough
Now I have to ask.
Is it that miracle time of year, or does SS have an immediate effect in the life of ProSense?
UnrepentantLiberal
(11,700 posts)he lost his faith.
Maybe ProSense searched for a counter argument to Obama wanting to steal our money to pay for what conservatives have done to this country and realized there wasn't one. That maybe Obama really is what he says he is: a Republican.

(1,474 posts)For most Americans, faith and idol worship convinces them that a lifetime of whips, chains, and bondage is anything but...
Even if truth were a ton of bricks waiting to fall on their head, cognitive dissidence ensures they wont be moved, so they keep going back for more of the same.
I lost my faith along time ago, but still, for those who are still holding on, them bricks have got to hurt!

(1,474 posts)Finance our pretend democracy by pumping hundreds of billions of fraudulently gained wealth into the campaign coffers of both political parties.
And with the blessings of right wing religion psychopaths, rigged elections, and the M$M (Main Stream Media) which is also owned by the TPTB, they can assure that most ideological blind democrats and republican will vote for the TPTB's very own hand picked venal sock puppets.
In other words, the TPTB is the one's who decide, with few exceptions, who most Americans will vote into elective office.
This insures that, no matter what the outcome of the election, the TPTB will always be the big winner, and the to blind to see 'Blue and Red workers' will always be the big looser.

a man of such high morals and backbone.
I would vote for him.
Maybe a Sanders - Warren ticket?
Now THAT would be sweet.
I'd say a million to 1 shot though.
A guy can dream though...

(20,899 posts)as the cure for all the nation's ills. Disappointment times infinity squared to the millionth power. Of course we all knew when Messrs, Simpson and Bowles were appointed, social security, Medicare, and Medicaid would bear the brunt and the most affluent and large, highly profitable corporations would continue to slop mightily at the public welfare trough.

(22,479 posts)today and he was right. Isn't is possible that the President knew that they would not accept those deals and handed them to them anyway. Now he doesn't have to give them anything I think.
If we go past Jan. 1 I doubt that the Republican's are going to say "no'' to a tax cut to the middle class.

I begged people to vote for him saying he would be much stronger second term and what does he do he lets the right still take over. Obama what is wrong with you!!! I want to you to fight and fight hard for the people that voted for you because if you don't I will never vote again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
