I saw one this morning on Facebook about how Timothy McVeigh killed 168 Americans in Oklahoma City with a fertilizer bomb and a box trucks, but we don't ban fertilizer or box trucks...
(I was in a rush this morning, so didn't respond - but, 168 killed in a one time incident almost 20 years ago is not a reason to ban fertilizer. 30,000 or so per year killed by firearms is a reason to do something (murder, suicide, accidental deaths, and "justifiable" killings by police & civilians))

(13,468 posts)I have also seen any talk about gun restrictions resulting in gun owners accusing people of saying they are nuts when they only want to protect their family.
The local news also made sure to show a guy that had been conceiling and carrying during the mall shooting last week and saying how he saved his friend and her baby because of that. We will get the "conceal and carry saves lifes" over and over now, and that everybody needs to be packing like the old west.

(4,062 posts)That just means that guns are (30,000 * 20) / 168 = 10,700 times more efficient at killing than a fertilizer bomb.
As long as you can do mental math, simply counter each one of these by mentioning how much more successful guns have been.
And by the way, fertilizer grows crops as a side effect. What else do guns do? THat's right. Jack and Shitt.
