And Connecticut will now get a real democrat as a senator too.

(1,728 posts)that I never voted for Holy Joe, except when he ran for Vice President, because I really had no choice.
I didn't vote for his opponents -- I just didn't vote for any Senator when he ran.
One of the proudest moments of my life was when I was physically ejected from the 1994 Democratic State Convention for leading an anti-Lieberman demonstration.
I also worked very hard for Ned Lamont in 2006, but the Repubs backed Lieberman, leaving their own candidate, a sacrificial lamb, high and dry.
Actually, he originally was elected to the Senate with the backing of William F. Buckley, who was trying get Lowell Weicker, a very Liberal Republican, out of the Senate.

WHY any "Democrat" would deign to acknowledge his pathetic Judas existence after THAT is beyond my comprehension.

(5,158 posts)I have NO respect for this man AT ALL. He should have did the right thing in 2006 and conceded when Ned Lamont defeated him in the Democratic primary, but no, it was all about him. I'm so glad he will be gone and a real Democrat will take his place.

(11,605 posts)I had never heard of him until Gore chose him to be his VP, but as a Jewish American, I was very proud. And he wasn't so bad back then...a little conservative for my liking, but still a Democrat and good on most issues.
But then when Bush decided to invade Iraq, he jumped on board and was as enthusiastic as any Republican. And it was all downhill from there.
For what it's worth, he has been good on some things. Like, playing a leading role in getting DADT repealed. And being reliably pro-choice, and pretty good on the environment. I give him credit for that.
Still, he has been a thorn in our side for years and I am glad that he will be replaced by a true Democrat.
I know this isn't the "good riddance" that most of you are giving him and I don't blame you for it. But since he's retiring I thought it more appropriate to reflect on his whole career as a Senator, including the few bright spots.

(9,033 posts)What I really won't forgive him for is that, if it weren't for him, we might have had an age 55 buy-in to Medicare in the ACA.
He can burn for that. Too bad I don't believe in hell.
